    Re: Corned Beef?

TBH I've never checked the contents of it, but it's far too processed for me. I prefer to buy plain, unprepared cuts of meat and do what I want to them. Then I know exactly what it's made of

no...you might want to soak it a bit to get some of the salt out first (excess salt may cause water retention & other woes). I especially love the extra peppery briscuits, myself. Canned corned beef takes 2nd place...

Well the point I was attempting to make was that the processing adds in ingredients that aren't Atkins friendly. Perhaps not in corned beef, but the preservatives, the salt, often sugars...my point being that sticking to unprepared meats means that there is little, or none of these preservatives added in through a process.

So it was really what you were asking. It's not just mashed up beef at the end of the day.

Sorry if you didnt understand my explaination the first time.

And checking a tin of corned beef I have here at home, the brine DOES contain sugar. Perhaps not much, but it's there.

I don't think she's talking tinned corned beef, but an actual brined corned beef brisket.

I would say it's fine, if it has no added sugar.....

corned beef and cabbage....MMMMMMMM. good dinner idea for St. Paddy's day!

I would just check the package count and enjoy Has extra salt so you might hold fluids for a couple of days..

                      Re: Corned Beef?

I eat it a couple of times a year, and it doesn't do anything to my weight loss. I don't like the taste of salt, and I don't add the seasoning pack, either, so I cook it for a while, pour off that liquid, then continue to cook. It still has enough taste in the broth to cook the cabbage, but most of the salt is gone.

So--tell her to call you when it is ready, go to her house and eat, then leave immediately and don't take any leftovers!
