  • Fitday help please!

    Hi Guys

I have downloaded fitday software and am inputing everything I eat and drink. I notice quite different carb counts from DANDR and fitday - for example, a swiss cheese and ham omelet in DANDR is 3 net carbs and on fitday it is 5g carbs (0g fibre). Which do you go by?

I am just double checking that at the end of the day, you do deduct fibre from carbs to get net carbs?

    Fat:156 1401 70% Sat:60 543 27% Poly:21 187 9% Mono:66 596 30%Carbs:30 91 5% Fiber:7 0 0%
So in this case, I have eaten 23 net carbs?

Has anyone got any fitday tips?

    Many thanks

    Zx

Sorry, Zara, I don't know either! Fitday confuses me sometimes! I've got a fitday question too so whoever answers Zara's can maybe answer mine as well! What does it mean when it says NSF after a food? Thanks to whatever Fitday Guru comes to help!

I always go by what the label says and adjust the fitday food accordingly.
if there is no label and different sources tell me different things, i take the average

        Hi Amy

Well done on your weightloss yesterday

Sera, I have started inputing most of the foods I use a lot as custom foods as I can then go precisely by the label.

It is confusing for us brits as all the measurements are American cups etc. and your food labels are different to ours as ours are net carbs so you do not deduct fibre so when I input a UK food, I have to leave out fibre or it will through it all out. Do you find veggies to be accurate? I like the fact that it breaks down the nutrients. I was surprised to see that I am hitting 100% RDA on most vits/minerals.

          Re: Fitday help please!

i know the label and measurement problem but on the other side im happy that all nutritional info here is listed for 100g of a product not a serving which i think leaves room for error.
most veggies i can actually use on fitday without editing much (i just make everything net carbs right away ), just a few things show very different info compared to the label of the actual products.

I don't think something like a ham and swiss omlette you are going to get exact #'s. You have to remember hams are going to have different carb amounts....you may need to add your exact ham you used as a custom food.

              Re: Fitday help please!

I would add the eggs, fat, ham etc seperately as everyone makes omelettes differently - the default fitday omelet will include milk!

I use the fitday pc and have set it up to deduct the fibre carbs so I see the net carbs easily.

BTW what I do when adding custom foods is add the fibre to the UK total carbs number and enter them both in the correct boxes, and then fitday deducts the fibre to make an accurate net carb count.

With the pc version of fitday you can easily add things like omelettes as a custom entry by starting a new custom food called 'Swiss cheese and ham omelette' and then clicking on the 'ingredients' tab and finding and dragging the individual ingredients into the ingredients box and editing them for the actual amounts you are using.

I have loads of custom entries on mine for quiches which I frequently make as well as the various bread substitutes I make. It really saves time & effort if you use a recipe frequently. I set the number of servings it makes then add all the ingredients for the recipe and save it then I can log one entry when I eat it.

If I am using an ingredient which has different numbers than the fitday one I first add it as a custom food so it appears on a search so I can drag it into the recipe.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

                Thanks guys.

E - how do you get fitday pc to deduct fibre from carbs automatically?
That's a good tip about adding the fibre back in. I have just been putting net carbs in an fibre as zero which works but is not so good when looking at food breakdowns.

                    Hi Zara
I dont have the programme on my work computer so cant look up how to do the fibre carb deduction at the moment but will get back to you tonight.

I think that fitday pc does allow grams as an option along with the cups/ounces dropdown list but it doesnt detail mls. However I think it does allow litres, so you can specify say 0.1 litre if you want to add 100 mls.

It means that they will be giving a general sort of number when showing numbers. Better to look for an entry that describes more exactly the food item or how you are cooking the food.

Say you ate a chicken breast without the skin because you dont like it. Choosing the option 'chicken breast NFS' would include the skin which would add extra fat to the numbers for that.
So choosing the option 'skin not eaten' would give a better representation of what you ahd actually eaten.
