  • Beware the Atkins Diet....and a Spain question!

Beware because it does horrible horrible things to your bank account! I went into my favourite shop tonight just to see if I could fit into a smaller size of trousers. Well... I could! So I thought that meant that I should buy them! And then not just them but a couple of shirts to go with them...and then a skirt that will also look nice with the shirts...and then shoes and a bag that will go with all...My bank account liked it better when I was too afraid to even step in a dressing room!

And for my question! I'm going to Barcelona this week for a week (so I won't be around the board much after Thursday!). My question is has anyone been to Barcelona or Spain while on Atkins? Is it hard? Any recommendations for legal food choices? I like the tapas restaurants here and it is usually easy to find things to eat there but I don't know how much UK tapas is like actual Spanish food...(like how most UK Chinese food isn't really Chinese food!). I would appreciate any recommendations or advice of things to eat while I'm there, I'm pretty nervous about sticking to plan! Thanks!!

Wow... I am sooo very sorry Amy. That just bites that you had to spend money like that. Darn Dr. Atkins to Heck!! Look at what he has done recently, first poor Spazzy and now you -- I hope its not contagious and we all have to start depleting our bank accounts in order to purchase clothes that don't fall off when we walk

Seriously - GREAT JOB!! You have worked really hard so you deserve to pamper yourself and buy pretty clothing!

You're right... Atkins is dangerous in that sense. I reckon we should all move to WW! (j/k)

Oh sweetie I feel for you. Atkins is such a tragedy to our normal way of doing things. Cant even buy large clothes anymore! It's gonna be ok though. Somehow I feel this will make us stronger people - even if we have to suffer with smaller cuter outfits

As for spain (how fun!) I would suggest researching the local cuisine. See what is commonly eaten. If you are going there to visit someone find out what they eat!

wow, too bad for the checkbook but good for you!

never been to spain but i found that in italy, being on atkins was really easy....my best friend is from spain and when she goes home, she raves about the seafood!!! we had the best seafood in italy ever so maybe you can do that. seafood, salads, cheeses, olives.....mmmmmm getting hungry just thinking of italy....

i am sure there are lots of good and legal things to eat there.....lots less processed for sure! enjoy your vacation!!!

Re: Beware the Atkins Diet....and a Spain question!

When I went to Spain, I wasn't on Atkins, but you should have lots of luck with Tapas. I spent most of my time in Sevilla so I'm not sure what the cuisine is like further north, but I ate seafood, especially shrimp, at just about every tapas bar. Other things to look for would be grilled squid, chirizo, mushrooms, ham--yum! The only thing that will be sad not to partake in is paella.

Honestly, Breakfast may be the most difficult time there: I remember it was basically coffee and a pastry. You could probably find nuts or something at a market store to cover that meal.

              Have a blast!

Thanks for all the tips! I'm going to pack a few legal snacks that don't need to be refrigerated so I can eat some for breakfast and later in the day if need be! I'm SO looking forward to tapas, I love it! Can't wait for the whole trip! And I'm taking my new clothing purchases with me! I'll post pictures when I get back!

I will be very interested to hear about your Barcelona experience, as I am going for 4 days in a couple of weeks time. I was intending to stick to seafood and steak.

                        I live in Barcelona!!!

I am having no problems at all, except for the wine and Sangria.

We eat a lot of Jamon(ham), roasted chicken, seafood, cheese, veal, entrecote(steak).

They also love their bread and italian food. But you won't have any problems!!

You won't have any problems what so ever!!!

Avyance, Thank you! That's great news! I'll stear clear of breads and sadly the sangria, too! It's good to know that you are finding it doable! Do you like the city? It will be my first time there! What is something that I shouldn't miss? If you don't mind giving me some advice! Thanks!

Bambina, I will definitely let you know how I do when I get back!

Oh yes. Well you definitely have to do the standard stuff. Sagrada Familia(sp?), Picasso museum, and everything in city center! Especially Las Ramblas!!

But if you can get outside city center. Castdafels has a great beach and nice eating places!

Also, Stiges is really nice, great beach and nice shopping area!

Also, Tibidabo(the street is avenida Tibidabo), which is an area up a mountain in barcelona is really nice. It has a really nice bar that overlooks all of Barcelona, it is really pretty at night and a nice restaraunt.

                            Sorry for the spelling.

Also, when I get home from work I will send to you a few restaraunt recommendations .
