  • Carbophobia...

Anyone else afraid of carbs? You see, I get going so well just on protein, fat, and the trace carbs in stuff, that I get fearful of adding salad, veggies, and the like, especially on induction.

Having not weighed myself yet, six days in, I don't know the numbers yet, but I'm down a pants size, the k-stix are medium pink, and my energy is up.

I just fear that the salad I just ate--all legal--will shut down my god-forsaken metabolism and mess me up.

Experience with this carbophobia would be appreciated...

    Thanks,

    Mitch

    Re: Carbophobia...

I've found that when I do have a daily salad I tend to lose more.

I'm kind of bummed that my lettuce is ruined as the kids cranked the fridge up to the coldest setting and now it's frozen along with the milk, LOL.

It's scary at first, but it's gets easier when you realize what you need for your body. Don't be afraid. Embrace the good carbs that veggies, proteins, and fats provide and you NEED to lose weight and have a healthy balanced eating plan

There are good healthy carbs out there and as you move through OWL and see that you can add them and still lose weight the fear will lessen.

          it will absolutely get easier.
its a good thing that you are cautious in the beginning when you are still figuring out what works for you and what doesnt.
as long as you measure and make sure you dont go crazy on the carbs you'll be ok, you will see when you weigh and measure
i was a lot more cautious when i had just started but by now i've tried so many new things and can even eat moderate amounts of starchy veggies again, i'm definitely not afraid anymore.
dont get me wrong, i still read labels and wont buy anything with suspicious ingredients but it definitely gets easier along the way.

i'm sure you'll get there when you get more comfy with atkins and figure out how your body works and reacts to different foods.
just stick to the rules and you'll do fine.
Date to reach goal: I don't care, as long as it happens :P

Yeah, I've been here before and I know my metabolism. Just the wrong thing can shut me down. My wife and I joke that ONE grain of rice and I gain fifty pounds! So I have to be careful...

            But not a carbophobe!!!

            Thanks for the encouragement

              Re: Carbophobia...

Welcome, American Junkie and congratulations on your progress so far! Have you read Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution? You really should start reading it. You should be having a lot more variety than just protein, even in induction. It might be scary but you absolutely need to start eating vegetables. There is a long list of legal veggies in the book and I think on the FAQ section of this board. You should be having about 20g of carbs during induction and you really don't need to keep it under that- most of that 20g though should come from your veggies. There is a big difference between carbs in rice or flour and carbs in vegetables. Don't overdo it on them of course but I think definitely work towards adding some in and don't worry! They are good for you! Congratulations again on your loss so far! You're doing great!

                Re: Carbophobia...

So thanks for the all the encouraging words, guys...really. On your direction I've begun eating salad...measuring two cups!!!...and I've been eating measured broccoli and spinach. I've also further limited my cheese to the allowed three ounces, which I'd forgotten about since my last read-through of DANDR.

K-Stix are nice and pink/purple, down to a comfortable size 42 jeans from a tight 44, and I can see my jawline again.

It's been nine days on induction and NO FRIGGIN SCALE yet! I feel so free, like I've broken another addiction. And while I can't wait to weigh in next thursday, I'm a bit nervous about it too.

My goal being about a hundred pounds or so, I know I'll lose the typical 10% during these first two weeks, perhaps a bit more...so we'll see...

Thanks again for all the advice,

                  Re: Carbophobia...

I will admit that I have carb issues but I know that I have to eat beyond induction. You sound like you are doing great - isn't it funny how more aware of food we become? I have to catch myself from lecturing my teenagers about sugar content yet at the same time, I want him to be aware of just how many sugars are in stuff. It used to be that all I counted was the fat # but now I am a bit militant with the carbs and sugar count.
