  • 5 Days and nothing!

Hi, I'm new to this and I started the diet on Monday..I checked my weight this morning and I'm still the same. I wanted to lose 20lbs but at this rate I'll have to keep wanting. I had major op last year...that's how I put the weight on. I'm wondering if certain drugs have an adverse effect. I've been on 12/15 carbs a day. However, I never did eat potatoes, chocolate, biccies, or much bread, maybe one slice every other day. Perhaps my carb intake wasn't high enough for it now to make a difference, or perhaps this is not the right diet for me??
    Any clues guys?

    Thanks.

    Jac.

    Re: 5 Days and nothing!

My first question is have you read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution...2002 version is used on ADBB. I would post a few of your days menus so people can see what you are eating & go from there. I would also suggest you take your measurements to keep track of lost inches & stay off the scale until you've done a clean 2 week Induction. Also how are your feeling? Sleeping better, more energy, better concentration, appetite under control...the list goes on.

    Hope this helps!

There could be a lot of reasons your not losing and without seeing what your eating it would be hard to speculate.
Now saying that, this is what the good doctor promised. We should lose 10% of what we want to lose on induction, in your case 2 pounds, then we should lose like 1-2 pounds a week there after.
So, post what you ate yesterday so the experts can take a peek
Make sure your sticking to the list.
Also what and how much exercise
Also how much water are you drinking

and are you taking any vitamins? What medication are you taking? Bread is a no no for induction and isnt allowed until the later stages of OWL. You are allowed up to 20 carbs per day so dont be afraid to eat some more. 12-15 carbs/day makes me wonder if you are getting enough veggies?

Also keep in mind the less you have to lose the longer it will take. Stay off the scale until you have completed 2 weeks of induction. Make sure to also measure yourself. I've discovered that my tape measurer is my bestest friend. Even if I haven't lost any weight on the scale, I've lost inches anyway

          Re: 5 Days and nothing!

          Hi Again,

Thank you all for your replies. I bought the most recent copy of Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution. I'm sticking to the induction rigidly.

I've never had a big appetite and until I had a full Hysterectomy last year, my weight has been aroung 135/140lbs for 15 years..less before child! This weight gain has crept up on me over the last year. I read in the book that HRT can cause problems? Unfortunately without the HRT I turn into some kind of homicidal, psychotic beasty!!?? Most of the 12/15 carbs daily come from veg and salad, I eat that with either a piece of steak, chicken, pork, cheese, fish. Breakfast normally consists of egg and 2 rashers of bacon, or scrambled egg with muchrooms. I don't cook anything too gormet husband is also on the diet and he is a very fussy and plain eater. He went on the diet last year and lost 16lbs. He gained 6 and so decided to go back on it. I also have 2 children and mother in law living with us so I do draw the line at cooking more than three different meals. I'm a very physical person and get about 3/4 hours of excercise per day for 4/5 days per week.

So you lovely people.....7 days now and guess what?? still the same weight. HELP!!

          Ok here's the stats:F 5'4..46...161lbs....still 161lbs..eeek!

            Re: 5 Days and nothing!

            Hello Jac,

Well, if you're already doing the lower-carb thing and you don't have much weight to lose, the fast start isn't going to happen. I'm sorry, it's just the truth. The water weight won't come off because you aren't eating a bunch of carbs in the first place so they're not going to drop the water.

However, all is not lost. Just the initial *whoosh*. One of the nice things about Atkins is that you get to eat a lot of tasty food and not be hungry. So if you track your food items, and calculate your BMR, and make sure you're eating fewer calories than you need to maintain your weight, you can't help but lose weight. The Atkins part helps a lot to ensure that you're not hungry, which DANDR says is the major reason why low-fat diets fail. So there's that.

As far as the stall goes, check your calories, check your defecation (are you constipated?), check your water or else your little fat cells will hang on to it (true dat), and check your exercise (by that I mean, is it possible you're building muscle?)

            Best of luck to you.

              Re: 5 Days and nothing!

Okay my next suggestion to keep going for another full week because some folks don't start to lose until then, Also try on those tight pants and see if they are getting loser and lastly, if that doesn't work, check out Drs A chapter on metabolic resistance. But wait until your second week.

Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
