I'm a cook. A pretty dang good one, if I do say so myself---and hey---somebody's gotta say it
however, I stink as a baker. baking requires a scientific patience and accuracy that i don't posess. 1 teaspoon is a measurement. my idea of measuring may go as far as pouring a quantity into my palm and going "hmm, that looks good".
Alas, I have been in the mood for something sweet. That may be TOM, or just a psychological need. Maybe both.
So I hit up Lindas website, and find an almond pound cake recipe. With a bit of changes, I can make that into a lemon poppy seed pound cake, no?
So like a good little trooper, I bring my eggs and butter up to room temperature, preheat the oven, grease my pan and measure out all the ingredients. Measure, blend, scrape, taste test. MMMM tastes good raw.....
Pop the thing in the oven. It says 50-55 minutes, but the commentary below the recipe said to check after 45. IT HASN'T RISEN!! Not one frikkin inch!!
I go over the ingredient list again. Not that it matters, too late now....but hey, what else am I gonna do? I'm muttering about it, and DH is assuring me that it'll still taste the same, no?
Well, it's cooling right now. i made a kind of creamcheese lemon icing and smeared it on top. They can cool together.
Putting all the stuff back where it belongs, it strikes me to look at the bottom of the baking powder can. EXPIRED December of 2007.
