    hello 6 weeks in and i was wondering if it would be cheating to treat myself? i was thinking that every 6 weeks i could have one meal of my choice.. like a pizza,pasta,cheese cake, chocolate cake.. like one of those sorts of things.. but only for one sitting, what do you guys think, would i be cheating myself or would it be a fair treat. and would it affect my weight, and weightloss? please help ..... confused .....
    Atkins induction started: 20th Feb 2008
    Starting Weight: 268.2lbs
    Current weight: 196. LBS
    1st Goal: 220.0 lbs- MET : 2nd Goal: 200.0 lbs MET 3rd Goal: 180.0 lbs : 4th Goal: 160lbs
    FINAL Goal: 140lbs

    DON'T DO IT...A CHEAT IS NOT WORTH IT IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM. Why take the chance of setting yourself up to a possible binge or getting off track for more than the one meal/treat. The other thing that happens is you will knock yourself out of ketosis. It can take up to a week for your body to recover from the cheat. Refer to your DANDR book as Dr. A talks about this very thing. There are many alternatives to the foods you have mentioned. Check out the recipes on ADBB & also go to this site for wonderful recipes...

    Again please reconsider. I'm sure other members will say the same thing. Also treat yourself with something other than food. A massage, manicure, a new CD or DVD etc...

      Though it may not effect your weight, it may very well have an effect on your whole atkins plan. The first time I did atkins, I told myself that I would not do pizza until I got below 200. I worked very hard and lost 51 lbs and got to 199, and had 2 slices of pizza.... and my downfall began.

      My suggestion to you, and anyone else thinking about this is... don't do it!!! First of all, that pizza really didn't taste as good as I remembered it.. funny how tastes change on this WOE. Secondly, it led me into a longterm feeling that I could have those 2 slices of pizza whenever I wanted. And, I did. Before I knew it, I was back to gaining weight and inches and am where I am now, back on induction and starting over.

      Do I regret it? You bet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stay with the real plan and you will not be disappointed.

      Treat yourself, yes... but with something besides a comfort food. Get new clothes, a new piece of exercise eqiupment, or something else... please, just don't use food rewards. They are a plan for disaster.

        DON'T DO IT!!!
        I am proof positive that "THAT" doesn't work. I completed 14 Day Induction-(lost 7 lbs) and went off plan for what reason I don't know. I was off plan for 17 days...Look at my SIGNATURE!! It's not worth it. I keep wondering where I would be if I had not cheated. Review the menu's and find something that really appeals to you. You can even google "low-carb recipes" and come up with something. Just make sure all of the ingredients are LEGAL for what stage you're in.

          I agree with the others, Once you give yourself permission to cheat, it just comes more often and it becomes way easier to cheat again.

          Now if you want pizza, do I have an induction friendly recipe for YOU

            Sure, cheat on... Atkins friendly cheesecake, Atkins friendly italian soda, Atkins friendly cinnamon pork rinds, whipped cream with cocoa Sure I cheat all the time... on yummy Atkins foods. If cheating is defined as off plan then you are prohibiting the needed mindset change needed to make this a WOL and not a diet.

              There are so many awesome desserts like cheesecake, mousses, pumpkin custard, etc that you dont have to actually cheat, it can just feel like a cheat.

              Also, its not worth feeling horrible afterwards, no I am not just speaking of guilt. I mean you may physically feel ill. I always do if I eat something Im not supposed to.

              I get a headache and feel sluggish like I am coming down with something and all that awesome energy and mental clarity that I had acheived just disappears and Im back in a carb laden mental fog and am so sluggish I can barely move. Trust me, not worth it.

              You can stick you it you just have to believe you are worth it and that nothing tastes as good as losing weight feels.

                  There are so many legal treats there is no need to "cheat" I love my berries with real whipped cream. Anyway, cheating is defeating the purpose of learning how to eat for the rest of your life...dontcha think?

                    thank you all for your kind advice, i decided against it and instead had a decaff green tea lol very different from what i wanted.. hehe.. i am currently in extended induction so i cant have most of the good atkins treats .. i think perhaps its time i moved of ex.induction... but the thing is the next level is only adding more veggies/salads.. i dont think that is gonna curb any of my cravings.. oh well..

                    i really do appreciate the support on this site, without it i wouldnt have got this far.. still a long road ahead.. but im sure ill make it thanks again to you all

                    oh and desertthorn would you mind giving me some of those recipes please

                        Maybe reward yourself with something different. Something you deserve because you are doing a good job - something that would not be sabotaging your efforts. You could plan them out - every so many pounds or every so many kilos.

                            Here's the problem. You think that carby foods are treats. Something wonderful that you are being deprived of. Try not to think of it that way. They are not treats and you are not being deprived. You know that their taste is deceiving and that they are not good for you. A real treat for your body would be something that really is yummy, healthy and low carb. There are so many things that you can have on this woe.

                              You made a great choice not to cheat. Once you try some of the Induction friendly treats that Diva68 gave the links to would you let us know what you think? It is true that the Mock Danish and the Cinnamon Pork Rinds are yummy treats that you won't regret. On Linda's site, http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/index.html, the Induction friendly recipes are all starred (*).
