  • Coconut Oil

I have been doing some research about coconut oil and I am very curious to hear if anyone else has tried this for energy purposes. I have been on atkins since the first of the year. And it seems like I have less energy now than what I did before starting. I am eating vegies and sticking to the plan, I am also walking about 5 to 6 miles a week. (Although, I have to push myself to get up and walk. Because I am soooo tired. But I do it anyway) I went into my local Planet Health and was told that this coconut oil might help. Does anyone have any advise on this. Please help. I NEED some energy! Thanks

    Re: Coconut Oil

Fat certainly helps with energy and with upping your calories if you are not already eating enough. Are you getting enough fat in your diet as it is? Are you eating enough calories as it is?

It's very difficult to even comment on whether coconut oil might help without having some idea of what you are currently eating. A sample daily menu (in as much detail as you can) would be a great help, it may be that a little tweaking will make all the difference.

      Re: Coconut Oil

I experienced a decrease in energy after being on the diet for 5-6 weeks as well. In retrospect, I am pretty sure I wasn't taking in enough calories, and so my body went into starvation mode. It would probably be a good idea for you to post a menu or at least give people here an idea of how calories you are taking in a day.

I noticed once I started adding a lot more calories to my diet, I had a lot more energy. I also noticed(once I started eating nuts, and taking in a ton more calories), that if I ate too much, I wasn't really losing anymore, but I wasn't really gaining either, and I had a ton of energy.

I seem to remember hearing something similar about coconut oil. If you find out, let me know. Interested to know if coconut oil holds any benefits beyond what other fats do such as olive oil (my most used), safflower, canola, peanut, etc.

I use quite a bit of coconut oil. I haven't really noticed an energy spurge but the other board I'm on they have quite a few folks on there that has noticed increased energy. I use it cause I like the taste and I believe it does have good benefits. I would say give it a try. It's not going to hurt you

I use it to up my fat. I like the taste. The consistency is a little..well, oily but it helps get my fat up. I haven't noticed an energy surge but I too have heard others talking about it, even a warm feeling after taking it. I got the extra virgin organic from a healthfood store and it was about $13 for a pound

I'll also use it as a lotion. I put it on my face and I'll get quite flushed for about 10 minutes. It's a neat feeling
