  • Green tea carbs?

    Hi

I always count one carb for any coffee or tea I drink (plus carbs for cream if applicable).

I like jasmine green tea. I e-mailed Twinings back in 2004 and they told me it did not contain any carbs. Fitday are showing zero carbs for green tea. Do you count a carb or not?

    Many thanks

I don't for decaf - but for any caffine tea I do.

This is decaf. I may phone Twinings again and see what they say. Thanks.

Just called them. zero carbs for all their green teas (if consumed without milk and sugar of course!).

            Re: Green tea carbs?

I've always counted carbs for tea and coffee of any sort... but more as a "better safe than sorry" thing than accurate knowledge.

I'm confused by this - why do you count coffee as 1 carb? Surely there aren't any carbs in coffee or black or green tea?
              Thanks, Sue

                Re: Green tea carbs?

I've just checked Fitday... they have one mug of decaffinated leaf tea as 1 net carb. (10 cups are 7 carbs though). For non decaff they give the same values.

Coffee they give 1 carb per mug (9 carbs per 10 mugs). Instant decaffinated = same values.

                  ARgghhh,

Thanks, I guess!! I was going by the Nutrition Data website, which says none (where the heck do they come from, anyway?). I had decided to keep coffee for induction, since for me it actually suppresses my appetite rather than causing cravings - which I understood to be the rationale for quitting it - but I guess I'll have to change that. Sigh. I see the program I use for counting (one I downloaded a few years ago) does say 1 carb.

                  cheers,
                  Sue

Hi Sue, I also find coffee suppresses my appetite. It's a shame about the 1 carb but it's worth it! x
