Sorry, but this has been driving me crazy for a long time.

    You LOSE weight. (not loose!)

Your clothes become LOOSE. (not lose!)

Well, if we're going to be picky, shouldn't it be "regardless" or "irrespective"? LOLOLOL!!!

          Sunny!

That is one thing that completely drives me crazy as well. I'm a graduate assistant for a 1st year World in the Twentieth Century class and you wouldn't believe how many people out of 40 mistake loose/lose and quite/quiet on their papers! I would have expected more from 18 year old University level history students. They aren't so happy when me and my trusty red pen get done with their papers.

              Re: Lose vs Loose

I can sometimes understand when people mix up "that" and "which" (but not often). But how anyone can mix up quiet and quite is beyond me!

Your and you're -- another one!

It's and its -- another one!

Roll and role -- another one! (and someone even misused this one in a newspaper headline the other day!)

When I can find three or more grammatical and spelling errors on the front page of the NY Times, nothing surprises me. The times website is even worse. I fully expect everyone to speak and write gibberish by the time I'm 40.

Oh, I hate that, too! Know what else I greatly dislike? When people use "they" or "their", even though the subject of the sentence in singular. Hate it.

I e-mail the New York Times about the spelling, grammar and punctuation on the Website all the time. They do actually respond and change it most of the time. Once, they were using quotation marks in contractions and possessives instead of an apostrophe.
