  • Calling anyone who has/had Gall Stones

I am trying to think positive right now, but so far 4 different doctors said it sounds like I have gall stones. Still awaiting the ultrasound results from my family doctor; so when I get those I'll fill you all in. Until then I am curious to know what others went through and how they come to find out they had gall stones. Were you told that it was from doing Atkins? One doctor told me this was diet related and that I shouldn't think of this plan as a way of eating that it is only meant to be done for 3-4 weeks at a time. (how untrue) Anyway, now my family is all talking behind my back saying they knew this diet was unhealthy, yadda yadda... and I'm feeling confused, discouraged, annoyed...and damn right off. I just got back on track. Today would have been my 2 week cheat free mark . I feel hopeless like I will never reach my goal now because I honestly believe this is the only plan I can succeed on...it is the only one so far Ive ever had any success with.

Please someone tell me there's hope out there and give me some advice.

PS...******I was following plan and had these attacks of pain 3 nights in a row but only after DINNER! I ate bacon and eggs all 3 days for breakfast and experienced no discomfort what so ever after the meal or all day prior to dinner. They say the pains are caused from consumption of too much fats and my gall bladder was contracting/producing bile to digest the fats and causing the pain. If that is the case then why wouldn't a greasy meal of bacon and eggs fried in butter do the same?? Is that weird or what? Or is this common? ********

Re: Calling anyone who has/had Gall Stones

Hi - I had gallstones when I was 24 .. am 42 now . My experience was rather traumatic with me feeling like i was having a heartattack the pain was so bad. Anyways - had the gallbladder out the next day and have been good since. Yes gallstones can be diet related - BUT - the increase in cases among young people has been related to LOW FAT diets where the gallbladder's function is not needed as much ( the bile sits in gallbladder and makes stones rather than being secreted into the stomach to digest fats) I have not had any trouble with doing atkins without a gallbladder at all. I wish you luck and hope you are feeling better soon!

the pain you are experiencing is when the stones get caught in the bile duct when bile is secreted into the stomach. Usually its the small stones that make the most problems ( mine were the size of grains of sand) as the big stones just sit in the gallbladder as they are too big to slip into bile duct. A normal gallbladder is designed to store bile from the liver until it is needed by the digestive process. The the gallbladder will contract and secrete bile into the stomach to digest fats so that shouldn't cause you pain.
ONce the gallbladder is removed the bile duct will deposit bile direct to the stomach from the liver in a constant flow

Re: Calling anyone who has/had Gall Stones

Well it turns out that I DON'T have gallstones.... there were none at all seen on the ultrasound. They said everything else looks normal to. I posted on MAY HAVE GALL STONES HELP so check that thread out. Thanks
