  • Average??

I just wanted to ask everybody what they lost the first month on atkins? I know its based on metabolic resistance and how hard you work, but I am still curious to know the numbers...is 20 pounds normal? I think at the rate I am going I will hit 20 at my 1 month mark. So if everyone could give me a number that would be great just wanted to see the average I guess...Thx!

    Re: Average??

20 pounds is very good but it all depends on how much you have to lose. I lost about 8 pounds.

According to the book, metabolic resistance is determined on your results of the first 2 weeks you were on Induction. With that said, Dr. Atkins wrote the average loss during those first 2 weeks for men is about 10 pounds, for women is about 6 or 8 pounds.

So you would really need to look at your first 2 weeks results in order to determine if you are average or not.

I lost roughly 10 pounds in the first month - a bit less than 1/3 of what I ended up losing.

            Re: Average??

I lost 16.9 lbs the first four weeks on the diet, but I don't know if that would be considered average. I started out having to lose about 230 lbs.

I'm in this for the long haul, though. Here's how I look at it: Someday, eventually, I will step on the scales and that magical number 158 will pop up. I will then maintain my weight between 158 and 162. Until then, every tenth of a pound I lose is getting me toward that goal. It won't happen tomorrow, it won't even happen this year, but it will happen. Someday.

What I am doing now is becoming healthier than I have ever been in my life. I am ensuring that I will be alive to watch my daughter grow up and have a family of her own. To be honest, the number on the scales means far less to me than getting my hips under 40 inches and my waist under 30 inches. This is a process, this is a journey, this is a lifelong commitment that I am undertaking.

            Good luck to you!

That's such an inspiring way of thinking, I need to make something similar my mantra!
