  • Vent...

Hi everyone. Just wanted to know if this is normal. So far in total I have lost 36 pounds and was in a size 24 before starting atkins, and I am STILL in a size 24 pants. I am not sure what is going on. I want to be able to go down a pant size. The scale says that I have lost this much, but my clothes are not. Has anyone else had this problem. My 22's still feel just as tight as they did before atkins.

This is the second time trying Atkins and hopefully this time it will be a permanent life change for me.

    Re: Vent...

I' m sure that must be very frustrating ........ but you know you are losing weight and that is awesome! We had a thread yesterday discussing sizing and how off it can be from brand to brand and even from the cut of the pants with in the same brand. I have on my shelf at this moment 16,14 all that fit and when I was in NC I barrowed a pair of shorts from my sister and they fit perfectly and when I looked at the tag theyw ere 18's! My 14's were from Walmart and her 18's from Banana Republic ....... the thing is when I held them up to each other they were exactly the same size! The point of all that is to say don't go by clothing size go by your own personnal measurements! Get out a tape and measure everywhere ......... then you will see your progress in inches.

Another thing I noticed in the beginning was that the clothes I wore everyday had stretched with me ........ so the size 22 jeans I had that fit me were not the same as a new pair of 22's from the store. It took me quite awhile to drop that first size to new clothes ......

I know this must be driving you crazy but just trust in what you are doing ....... you see scale movement you must also feel so much better! Hang in there and trust that the clothes will change as well ......... your doing great!

You're probably just losing weight in other areas first. Have you notices your waist, arms, stomach, chin etc are smaller? Women generally have more difficulty budging weight around their bums and legs. It WILL come off but you just need to keep up the good work and wait. Weight loss is not equal all over your body. You might find it drops off everywhere else first (making you look funny) but will all disolve over time.

Congratulations on the 36 lbs lost!!

Have you been measuring? Chances are you have lost inches just hasn't been reflecting in the clothes. You might be losing more in one area than another. I lose more of my chest than I do my waist (tear...I like my chest...)

also depending on what you are doing for excercise could be affecting where the inches come off. Running will do more for the legs than it would for the waist for example.

              Re: Vent...

Some one said earlier that you lose weight from different parts of you body... have you noticed your bra fitting differently, or your sleeves a little looser... the other think to consider is that when we are really big ( I am 276, with a net loss thus far od 20lbs) that we carry weight around our internal organs. So if you have lost weight just be happy with the numbers and imagine your heart healthier for not having fat around it, or imagine your liver and lungs and diaphram less cushioned in fat... those are positive images... and before you know it your pants will be falling off...
After all that is why we are all here right? Oh... and measure measure measure!

              Good Luck!

                Congratulations on the 36 pounds!

As to the pants size, I've experienced similiar results inthe past going both up and down! Do you wear pants with elastic waist band? I do and I have found that they definitely stretch with you up to a point. I have gained quite a bit without going to a larger size and lost quite a bit without going smaller. .

Stay with it though and it will change!

                  Re: Vent...

Thank everyone. I have been exercising, not hardcore but I have been walking a lot and doing weight lifting. I have not noticed any change in the way that my clothes fit. I have not been measuring though, so maybe you are right and I am losing somewhere else. I can never tell on myself if I have lost any, but I can tell on other people...funny.
I will be sticking to it, but it is just kind of depressing to know that I have lost this much and still wear the same pants. I did not know that there would be fat built up on the inside near your organs. I guess that may be some of what I am losing. I do think, though, that the stretching by wearing my old pants so much could be another reason. I didn't realize how much bigger I had stretched them. Anyway, thanks for all of the replies. I will stick with it, and hopefully the size change will come sooner than later.

                    Re: Vent...

UGh, don't you hate it!! I am going through this right now too, and while it IS frustrating, you have to hang in there.

I think it has to do with us wearing the few pairs of pants and they get seriously broken into...if ya know what I mean. LOL. Like th epants I am wearing right now...they are 13's, but I coudl POUR myself into them at 180...but when I was 180 and I went to get a new pair of the same jeans..no good. I couldnt get them over my hips! LOL. But I just went back to the store and they went right on.

36 pounds is a LOT of weight to have lost and you should be so proud of yourself. Please do take measurements and/or take pictures..they help me tremendously.

I hope this helps!!!!! And hang un there.. I know exactly how you feel and once we hit a certian point in this journey our clothing is going to practically FALL off!!

                    Keep up the great work!

Congratulations on your 36 lbs loss..That's a great number. have you tried taking pictures? you might still wear the same size, but your pants must be fitting you in a much better way?
Just keep up the good work, and in no time, you will find yourself wearing smaller pants.
