I just started induction and went grocery shopping last night. I checked out those Atkins products (breakfast bars, etc), and the carbs were at least 17 on all of them. This is almost a whole day for one bar? Am I missing something? Why are they so high?

Re: What is going on with these Atkins bars?
I am glad you looked at the label!! As well as the carb count you need to look at the list of ingredients to see exactly what is in them (as with any other product you are considering).
Once you see what is in it you can decide by comparing them with the list of allowed foods whether you are going to use the product for induciton or whatever phase of Atkins you are on.
As far as I know the bars are NOT allowed on induction because of the ingredients which mean they should not be used till you are at the rung of OWL that includes ALL the ingredients - which may be nuts, fruit, soya, grains etc.
As for the carb count being way off - the food manufacturers have decided that some ingredients like sugar alcohol do not affect our bodies so their carb counts can be ignored. So they say you can deduct the carbs from the sweeteners they use and thus get a low carb count.Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Re: What is going on with these Atkins bars?
Despite what the label may say on the Atkins bars....NO, they are NOT appropriate for Induction! Why? Because they contain ingredients that are NOT on the acceptable foods list like milk, soy & peanuts AND, while the label says 0 grams of sugar alcohols....they contain Glycerine...which IS a sugar alcohol. If you must have one of these....save them for the purpose Dr. A created them for....emergencies!"IF You Do What You Always Did...You'll Get What You Always Got!" - Dr. Phil McGraw

Re: What is going on with these Atkins bars?
I learned that the hard way. I was doing the bars and Atkins shakes and everything for Induction. I liked the shakes but couldn't stand the bars they are soooo gross. Eating all this "Atkins Friendly" stuff the first few times attempting this diet was my downfall. I never lost very much plus I quit Atkins cause I couldn't stand the food. This time around I'm cooking everything and going to Linda's site for recipes and everything is sooo tasty. Stay away from the cardboard tasting bars!!

Re: What is going on with these Atkins bars?
My take on those bars is there totally NOT worth it. I mean, for the same amount of carbs you could be having fiber rich veggies or lower carb fruits and on later rungs, low carb breads. Its just not worth it to waste all those carbs on one bar thats a) not very tasty and b) far from filling.Emily.

Re: What is going on with these Atkins bars?
Tell me if I"m wrong - but I tend to separate the shakes from the bars. I like (and use) the Atkins Shakes. Usually one at night to start any post-dinner-peckishness. Though - I count the carb count at the full label (I think 4gr) not the net that they print.
The bars I avoid unless really, really desperate. They're gross, too-sweet, and I worry I'll stall.
Anybody else of this kidna mind set?
