  • What Induction-Friendly Snacks Do You Pack When Traveling?

    Hi everyone,
As I mentioned in another post to the Main Forum recently, I am preparing to begin Atkins once I complete the current weight loss program I am on now (Lean for Life, which is also low carb, but also low fat).

One challenge I have coming up is a trip out of town for work. My biggest concern about starting induction prior to it is not having induction-friendly snacks on hand (or being able to obtain them easily) as I will be traveling with my boss (who will be dictating much of the trip's schedule, driving the rental car, etc.)

For those of you who travel regularly, are there any induction-friendly snacks you can recommend (preferably those that do not require refrigeration, as I will not have a fridge handy)?

Thanks for any and all advice you may be able to provide!

pre-made hard boiled eggs, olives, cut up veggies, maybe even some string cheese.

Make sure you are also drinking plenty of water - trips can get a bit thirsty.

This is my first post... so I hope I do it right.

I like pork rinds ( well I don't but they work for me while on induction) and with them I like a cheese you can buy... its old nippy cheese in a red pot... a little expensive... but no carbs.. and it is so processed it can stand being out of the fridge for a while... for me it satisfies the crunch and the tang I miss the most when doing induction... celery is also good with this cheese...
I think it is called imperial... it is a red container like a cream cheese container and has a black lid. It is usually above the cream cheese in the grocery store...
      Good luck with the trip!

I don't have any advice about any of this, since I'm new too and haven't quite been able to find quick snacks besides hardboiled eggs and string cheese... but I was wondering what the consensus was on beef jerky? I forgot to look for it at the grocery store yesterday so I could check out the label.

I've always turned to string cheese and/or beef sticks. I buy the beef sticks at Kroger and there all sorts of different kinds (beef, pepperoni, turkey, etc). The beef sticks are good and there aren't any carbs if I recall correctly. Just make sure you have water with you!!

How about you check out Linda's Site with lots of induction legal recipe's http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/recipes.html

The ones with the * star are induction friendly and I think you will find quite a few snacks and stuff, which don't need to be kept cold.

Kitchen Table brand cheese crackers (or make your own) are pretty good. they are just cheese, baked or fried to remove the fat and they get all crispy I also like making cinnamon pork rinds. They do sell those, but this way I get to chose my AS.

Why don't you start Induction after your trip? That way all the pressure and anxiety of not being able to eat correctly during the trip won't be on your shoulders?

                  Megs,
Bless your heart. You're the first one who has said what I've been thinking. Especially because most of the snacks recommended (cheese, etc.) really do require refrigeration (or might get me pulled aside going through security)! I do think waiting until after I return is probably best in terms of stress and giving myself the fair shot I deserve. What I'm doing currently is working to maintain, and even lose a little (since I'm doing low carb and I am in ketosis, etc.), so it's not going to kill me to keep that up for a few more weeks. Plus, it gives me more time to re-read the book and ask any questions I may have before delving in. So I'm thinking May 24 will be the first day of induction for me.

Thanks to everyone for sharing your ideas and allowing me to think "out loud!" I am already so impressed with the great support here!

                  Best,
                  Jen

                    Good call, Megs!

While waiting to start induction, Jen, maybe you can start some of the other aspects of Atkins - making sure you drink enough plain water, exercising, giving up caffeine, cutting down on sugars etc.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Re: What Induction-Friendly Snacks Do You Pack When Traveling?

                      Hi, Elizellen!
Thanks so much for the advice! As a result of the program I've been doing for the last 8 weeks, I'm already ahead of the curve, which is nice! I exercise daily (I get a minimum of 10,000 steps a day), I drink over 100 oz. of water a day, not a granule of sugar has crossed my lips since March 5, I've never been a caffeine drinker (so that one was really easy!). I've been in ketosis since the first week of March as well. Basically it's just a matter of keeping it all up until the end of May when my schedule settles down enough to make the full switch to Atkins. And a head start is always a good thing, right?!

Thanks again for all the great advice! I really do appreciate it!
