  • Need some help with my Induction menu

Hello all. Today was my first day of induction and after reading a lot of posts I have realized that I have no idea about how many veggies I can eat within the 15 carb limit because I don’t have a kitchen scale. Also I wonder if I am eating too much or too little ?

I am writing what I ate today and what I plan to do tomorrow. I need some help to understand if this is a good menu plan. I work overnight so the eating times are odd. Also sometimes I have a problem doing 3 meals a day. I like to have the biggest meal when I wake up, then a snack and then the last meal of the day. But from tomorrow I will try and break it down to 3 small meals and 2 small snacks in between. I have been a strict vegetarian for years but need to do Atkins desperately. So I have started eating fish and eggs. I don’t think I can include anything else such as chicken, bacon , turkey etc. I tried but it was disastrous!

    4/29

    10 pm.

First meal of the day. No coffee or tea, drank water.

Made a very small salad of cucumber and lettuce (one cup both combined) and a piece of an oven baked salmon (Cajun salt on top, in olive oil) . I don’t know how many oz the salmon was but I am posting a pic which looks exactly like the big piece I had.

    4 am

Very hungry. Thinking about food and mc.donalds. realized it has been 6 hours since I ate!. I had a snack of a small bar of liveactive cheddar cheese stick and a small can (3oz) of Tuna with lots of water.

    8 am

I plan to go home and as dinner have an omelette made in a tsp of olive oil with 2 eggs, 1 cup combined of mushrooms and green peppers. will drink a cup of green tea with no sugar or milk.

    * SNACK

Will keep one hard boiled egg nearby in case I feel hungry before bed.

    END OF DAY

    4/30

    Breakfast

omelette made in a tsp of olive oil with 2 eggs, 1 cup combined of mushrooms and green peppers. will drink a cup of green tea with no sugar or milk.

    Snack

Half a cucumber with black salt and a hard boiled egg.

    Lunch

Tofu scramble ( small piece of firm tofu with one cup combined of mushrooms and green peppers in olive oil). Cup of green tea.

    Snack

small bar of liveactive cheddar cheese stick and a small can (3oz) of Tuna with lots of water.

    Dinner

Salad (lettuce 1 cup plus half a cucumber). 2 Hard boiled eggs

    END OF DAY

Hey Ashley! I'm no expert with the veggies...I've been broke lately and not eating much...but I'm sure one of the board experts will pop in shortly and give you some advice on that! I can however say that its a good thing that you had a hardboiled egg on hand to snack on! Planning ahead like that is really smart...that's sure to keep you out of the mcdonald's drive thru, and avoid the dreaded mc-stomachache lol. I find that if I don't plan ahead and have things on hand, that's when I've cheated and eated something bad, which just leads to a binge and weight gain and all that...not worth it!

I just wanted to say that I see we have another thing in common besides our bellies! I also used to be a vegetarian! The first meat I tried to eat back when I started Atkins the first time around, was chicken breasts...I would cut up the pieces really small in a salad, and eat really slowly, trying not to throw up lol. Now I love chicken breasts...and turkey, and ham. I can't believe I like bacon now, the smell of bacon cooking used to make me sick! I still don't eat beef or seafood! I'm going to try to start eating some seafood little by little....but I don't think I'll ever eat red meat...

BTW do you have a copy of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 edition??? Also in this forum there should be a sticky explaining the proper amounts of what veggies you can have. Its a 20 carb limit a day for induction with most of those carbs coming from veggies but you're also allowed some heavy cream, and also for cheese you should count 1 carb per oz if I remember correctly...look for that sticky...

Yeah, It's pretty clear you have not read the book. Even if you don't have the book there are posts here that tells you exactly what to eat and how much. Couple of things I noticed right off the bat is it doesn't look like you're eating enough or enough fat. Also tofu is not allowed on induction.

According to the Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution Carbohydrate Gram Counter (the one published before he died), tofu is allowed during Induction. With that said, the carbs must be counted.

But please read the book or at the very least read the links that have been supplied to you.

Oh, Excuse me I thought that tofu was made from soy. I guess I learned something new today.

Thank you so much for such a lovely post. I have read the book plenty of times and this is going to sound stupid ..... but when i start the diet and actually need to remember .... i just go blank ! I am trying not to eat too much cheese/ cream so i can use all 20 carbs towards veggies.

so nice of you to share you vegetarian -struggles with me ! LOL today i almost hated the smell of salmon being cooked in the oven but i think that's just my body tricking me into eating something stupid as before. I realized today i was eating massive amounts of bread and rice and pasta !! I am so glad i am doing this properly now.

Thank you once again. I feel much better now. I made a small tofu scramble with mushrooms and brought two hard boiled eggs to work, no way i am doing the mcdonalds run at 3am !!!

See you soon with a thinner healthier body my friend !
              Warm regards.

i did remember that tofu was allowed and i know i have to count that in carbs. I think i just overcomplicated the carb count and ended up quite confused in the kicthen. after reading all the posts i realize i need to write down my menu beforehand and make sure all the veggies / cheese/ cream and tofu 'combined' make up the 20 carbs !.

Well congrats in joining me in this change in our WOE! I was never one of those healthy vegetarians lol. All I ate was pasta and cereal...so glad I'm not doing that anymore! Best wishes and remember to be strong...No Mcdonalds hehe! Always plan ahead like I said...not planning ahead is what gets me in to trouble...
