  • Metromint Chocolatemint water

    Hello!

I joined about three weeks ago and started Induction April 9th. I moved up to OWL rung 1 this week and so far things have been going well. I have a lot to lose so should be around here for awhile! I'm pretty new to posting on message boards but have been lurking a lot around here (that sounds so creepy, but I swear I was just reading and learning!! ) and have something I wanted to share....

Metromint water--it is purified water flavored with mint--no sugar, no sweeteners, no artificial flavors, no carbs, no calories, nothing but deliciousness!

They started with peppermint and spearmint flavors--of which I prefer the spearmint. Then they added orangemint and lemonmint--both quite good and still nothing "bad" added, just water, mint and "orange/lemon essence". They recently added cherrymint--not my favorite (the flavors just don't go well together to me) and chocolatemint--OMG, this is my newest addiction!!!!! When you open a bottle it smells like a Thin Mint cookie!!! And although the taste is subtle (compared to sweetened drinks) it is awesome! It pretty expensive (about $1.70 for 16 oz bottle) but to me, totally worth it! It soothes the chocolate beast effectively for me AND I count it toward my daily water intake!! Ingredients: purified water, mint, cocoa essence (no calories, no carbs...)

Additional benefit--it also helps with ketosis breath!

In my store it was in the "healthy foods/organic section" not by the other beverages. I'm interested to hear if others have tried it/like it!

    Katie

(edited once because I thought I joined a month ago, but I guess it's only been three weeks! I've been lurking a little longer though!)

      Re: Metromint Chocolatemint water

      Sound interesting, Katie.

I noticed from a google that they have 'essence of whatever' as the flavouring.

To be doubly safe make sure that if it has say 'orange essence' that you wait till you reach the 'other fruits than berries' rung of OWL before using it.

As a small amount of lemon juice is allowed on induction then that might be OK to use, along with the mint flavoured one as herbs are allowed too. The choc flavour ones would be 'legal' if you are counting cocoa as a spice which some of us do otherwise would need to wait till the nuts/seeds rung of OWL.

However Dr Atkins does say in the special category section of the allowed list for induciton that using lemon juice might hinder your weightloss, so keep an eye out for problems with that.

      He also says
Don't include decaf coffee or tea or other beverages as part of your daily water intake.
I would read that as saying that plain water should be your basic requirement of 64 fluid ounces and any other drinks should ba in addition to that.

At the moment my husband is back on induction after his doc advised him to 'go back on your wife's diet ) and we have a pact that he can drink other than plain water as long as he also drinks his 8 glasses!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

        Re: Metromint Chocolatemint water

        Hi! Thanks for the replies!

I bought mine at my regular grocery store (Albertson's) but it was in the healthy food/organic food aisle...not by the other beverages. I have also seen it in several Whole Foods stores by the other waters.

Elizellen--thank you so much for the response. I definitely understand what you are saying about being careful of the ingredients. Because they are expensive I only have one bottle a day so I'm not too worried about it right now but it is good to be aware. The flavors in addition to the mint are very subtle--more like floating a small slice of lemon in a big glass of water rather than squeezing lemon juice into it. I will e-mail the company though to see if I can get more specifics about what "essence" means, what impact that has on carbs and how to count the ingredients. For now, though, it is keeping me away from diet soda/crystal light and chocolate, which is good.

Just out of curiousity...if I floated a slice of lemon into a glass of tap water would that still count toward my daily water intake or does it really have to be totally plain?

Thanks again and have a great day!
