  • question about using fitday.com

    Hello
I have been using fitday to journal my induction menu. i am using the free version. So far i just add the food i eat and it shows the carb content and i just wait to see if all the carbs add up to 20.

today i read in one of the posts that i should substract my fiber from the foods to get my net carb !!! oh god i didnt even think of that. if i add 1 oz of mushroom and it shows me a number , i just assume that is the exact carbs i am eating. How should i deal with this ?

Also sometimes i cut up my veggies and just weigh them in ounces before cooking. But on fitday , there is no 'oz' option for certain foods (mushrooms, cream cheese etc) how do you deal with this ?

What is PC version of fitday ? is it cool ?

    thank you sooooo much.
    Ashley

    Re: question about using fitday.com

If you go to the goals tab and enter a value for fiber, fitday will automatically ahow you the carbs - fiber number. I just looked up "mushrooms, raw" and there was an option for ounces. For cream cheese, it gave an option for a 3oz package so you can fiddle with that (ie .33 package for 1oz, 1.33 package for 4oz, etc.)

I use the PC version and love it. It allows you to enter unlimited custom foods, has more options for measurements in the food log, and more report options.

I eat a lot of things that they don't have listed (mainly foods I cook) so I just add them into the Custom Foods list. I'm still new at fit day but it is really helpful! I've noticed when adding in custom foods the computer doesn't subtract the fiber for you to give you net carbs (I'll have to check out what brandywine is talking about), so when entering carbs in the carb line I put the total net carbs that way I don't need to try and do math...I hate math, haha!

        Re: question about using fitday.com

I use the fitday some just to find out some of my daily totals on all the numbers, I had noticed the carb count showed was without the fiber deducted.

fitday is a nice tool at times but its limited by how much information it shows in one place, if you click the link on your selected food items the numbers are there for you to subtract based on your food quanities, it would just be nice if it totaled up to the net carbs instead of total carb counts on the charts.

on the PC version it does show net carbs. It is worth getting. Under the place where you list foods to the leftis a colum of buttons. If you click on the one that says weight goal it will show you how what you ate today compares with the preset ratios you plug in and it shows carbs without fiber and fiber seperately

I much prefer the PC version. It is worth the $20.

I like the pc version too.
It has loads more space for custom foods and it is easy to enter the ingredients for a whole recipe by dragging them into the custom entry, so you can easily add one serving of it when you eat it.

Of course the other big advantage is that you can use it when you are not online.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

                Re: question about using fitday.com

To calculate net carbs on Fitday, there's a box with a pie chart in it that shows you the percentages of fat, protein and carbs....in that box you'll "carbs" listed in bold, and right below it not in bold is "fiber" and the count. So you just subtract the fiber from the carbs. I wish there was a way to post a screen print of it here.

Oh, actually if you go to my stats journal, my post #15 shows a photo I took of my fitday entry for the day and you can see the box I'm talking about.

You're welcome! That's one of my favourites, and you can also do it with cherry tomatoes ...cut them in half, sprinkle some parm on top and broil...mmmmm.
