  • Day 4 and bombarded by cravings

I am on day4 of induction and I have pretty good will power, and when I want something this bad I work my butt off to get it. With that said, I am craving something sweet today. I WANT CHOCOLATE. I won't have it. Last time I used ANA when I would have a sweet craving I would find the sharpest cheddar cheese I could find and eat a few slices. That seemed to do the trick. I'm the type that if I really had something that tastes sweet (even if it is Atkins friendly) I don't want to stop.

Does anyone else have ways that they beat their cravings?

I don't know why but something salty or sour takes away my desire for something sweet. A few olives would work. Also I sometimes chew sugarless gum. It works for me and I count it as one carb for the sweetner. I know it is not the most recommended, but it is sweet and better then an all out sugar binge.

Have a fatty snack, then drink lots of water, then get busy with something to take your mind off food. Hang tough! The cravings will be gone before you know it.

Sunny is right. How about a little cream cheese, some unsweetened cocoa and a little splenda?

1 cup unsweetened almond breeze almond milk (2 grams carbs) frozen in a ice cube tray, and 1 tablespoon cocoa powder (3 grams of carbs or 2 net carbs) plus a tiny bit of stevia or splenda if you want = make a great mini chocolate shake

my other "get me through this" is mini pizzas - take 5 pepperoni slices (I use Hormel Turkey), put a tiny amount of tomato paste (1 tablespoon divided by 5), add lots of italian seasoning and drizzle with olive oil. this was my reward when i had a really rough day on week one

My only craving on Atkins was on my second or third day and i wanted something sweet ssooooooooo bad ! I mean i was ready to quit atkins, it was that bad. Thankfully i discovered something called a 'MOCK DANISH". It is made with cream cheese, eggs, splenda, vanilla extract or cinnamon.(induction friendly) Girl let me tell you it saved my life ! Cravings are very dangerous, they need to be taken care of or they will run you over !!
If you search under MOCk DANISH here , you will get plenty of recipes (and variations to suit ur taste)

Also someone suggested taking L-GLUTAMINE. you can get it from walmart for like $6 and it helps to cut down on sugar cravings and help in other ways too.
i bought it but never used it because i never had another craving !

In his book "Vita-nutrient Soultions", Dr. Atkins recomkmends 1-2 grams L-Glutamine with some heavy cream and a touch of sweetener for sugar cravings.

That's when I grab a bottle of Metromint Chocolatemint water--smells like a Thin Mint cookie and tastes like having a sip of water after eating a Thin Mint cookie! It's just purified water with mint and cocoa essence--I've been counting it as 1 carb just to be careful, but there are 0 listed on the label. Gets you a little of the chocolate flavor, but also the mint is so refreshing that after having some I don't feel like eating other stuff.
I had a thread about it here somewhere. I found it in my regular grocery store (an Albertson's store) but not by the other water/beverages--it was in the "natural/organic" section. I've also found it at Whole Foods right by the other waters. It's a little pricey, but nipped my cravings very well! And the cravings do go away as you get more into induction.
