I think I know the answer to this but I want to see if I'm right.

Yesterday I went to a luncheon yesterday at a Japanese Steakhouse and although I passed on the rice, I'm not sure what was put on the chicken & veggies... I'm assuming terriyaki & soy sauce. But... I woke up last night with a bellyache. My tummy was on fire... I think it was sugar alcohols???

Then today.. boss's birthday and everyone around here is watching so we got an angel food cake with fruit & sugar free whipped cream. I had about 1/2 cup of the cake, 2 pieces cataloupe, 3 watermelon and some whipped cream. I wanted to just taste it but not go overboard.... now my belly is burning on fire again.... sugar alcohols again????

    Re: bellyache

I would think so, altho im not too sure about the japanese food place. For me whenever i introduce a food with sugar alcohols or a higher carb count i feel all bloated and yucky.

      Re: bellyache

it's not the sugar alcohols, it's the sugar.

everything you ate was packed with sugar - which you arent suppose to have. You at teryaki sauce which si full of it, watermelon which is VERYv high in sugar and VERY low in fiber, cantelope and cake!these are all packed with carbs and sugar. Thats why you're in pain!

Watermelon and cantaloupe are higher up in the rungs of OWL, but at least those are natural sugars. The angel food cake is nothing but sugar and eggs. Soy sauce hurts my stomach...always has. I'm not sure why either. I haven't had any soy sauce since starting this WOE and I'm glad because it makes me feel awful. Next time you go ask the chef to prepare your food without the sauces. I think it tastes better like that anyway. About 6 months ago hubby and I went (before Atkins) and I got the lobster, steak and veggies...all prepared with the sauces. I was sick to my stomach afterwards. If I was sick then, I cannot imagine how you feel since you've been on Atkins and have kept your body free of these sugars. I'm so sorry your sick!

          Re: bellyache

When I go out to a restaurant, like Red Lobster, I always have either lobster and steak with a salad, or grilled shrimp with no kind of spices or sauces. I always tell them to put it on the side, that way I control what goes on my food. Sorry you're sick!
