  • New Atkins shake formula....not pleased.

    Hello Fellow Atkins friends,

Has anyone tried the new formula? I bought a 12 pk at Sam's yesterday of the chocolate delight and I am not pleased. It leaves a fake sugary after taste in my mouth that lasts about 1/2 hour. Sad to say it reminds me of the slim fast shakes of many many years ago. They have dropped the fiber down 1 and have changed the nutritional vit and min %', added a new sweetner and I was told by the company added a better protein base. I am scouting for old cases as I speak. Please let me know what you all think of the new product . Goodness i hope it is not just me....lol

    Happy Friday,

    Hello, i haven't tried them.

Are you still on induction?? If you are you should try and stay away from all those frankenfoods, they have been known to stall.

    Guud luck!!

Remember that Atkins is a high fat/medium protein/low carb way of eating, and that those shakes are fairly top-heavy regarding protein - about twice the protein as fat, making them something like 40% protein - so you might need to add some fat to those.

I'd avoid all shakes if you can. In the past when I drank them I never lost anything...this time, no shakes and I've lost!

Thank you for the responses. I did not know the shakes were a bad thing to use. I use them because they have the higher protein in them and I do not do well eating meat. I like it but it doesnt like me. I have used the tuna/fish and eggs allot but what else can I do to keep the protein up? Again ty for the advice. More please

be really careful, they also came out with new 'simply good' bars that actually don't use sweeteners, but contain actual sugar...i was really shocked at that.... don't always assume because it says atkins it's sugar free.. it's a good idea to read labels too.

Do you know that you are low on protein?

We are aiming for about 30% protein throughout our Atkins journey.

I found that my percentages worked out to about 65% fat/30% protein/5% carbs without really aiming for it by just eating according to the list.

You can log your food into one of the websites that work out your fat/protein/carbs and nutrients if you haven't already.
One site many of us use is at www.fitday.com.

Arrgghhhh.....that company clearly took a hit after Dr. A's passing. They discontinued some of their vitamins, including my favorites (notably the oil/CLA combo...). Some of the bars became too sweet and the carb content looks overly glycerined. - I know glycerin is supposed to pass w/o incident - I just don't believe that fully.

I just tried the new shakes. They are indeed "too sweet". I had actually just started using them again before this revision. They aren't awful, just not moving in the right direction.

I wonder if somebody will actually seize the low carb mantle again? I've never really paid attention to the SouthBeach company - but a lot of their bars seem very high carb.

South beach diet is not as strict on carbs as Atkins (only during phase 1)...which would be why. We don't get the bars here so no idea...

The new Atkins simply good bars ingredients list reads:

Ingredients: Rolled Oats, Soy Nuggets (Soy Protein Isolate, Tapioca Starch, Salt), Roasted Almonds, Inulin, Organic Agave Syrup, Honey, Raisin Puree, Glycerine, Brown Rice Crisp (Brown Rice Flour and Rice Flour), Organic Evaporated Cane Sugar, Milk Protein Isolate, Arabic Gum, Butter Oil, Natural Flavors, Salt, Soy Lecithin.

I'm still so shocked by this! i realize alot of people don't want to consume artficial sweeteners, but this just goes against the whole atkins principle...

Sugar, syrup, honey, starch, rice and flour. That is outrageous.
I guess it goes to show that no matter what the name or company is - always read the labels

Re: New Atkins shake formula....not pleased.

I've always used the Atkins Advantage shakes. I wouldn't drink them all the time, just around TOM when I craved something sweet. I would take a few sips to cure my cravings, and that one can would last me about a month.
I have to agree with the others, that you have to read your labels, even if it's Atkins, because when I figure out the actual net carbs, they never come out to what it says the net carbs are.......when I see that, I stay away.

Heavens! That's terrible! I agree... it's completely against the fundamentals of the Atkins plan. Dr A would turn in his grave!

                              agreed!

they totally went downhill, i stocked up on the old ones, they're at safeway right now at 2/$10.00, which is a really good deal from what i usually pay. i bought a bunch of the new ones and i don't like the container/packaging, and the vanilla shakes which i used to LOOOOOOVVVEEEE, just don't taste very good. I drink em, but i dont look forward to them like i used to.
