Is it possible to show moderate Ketosis on the test strip but not really be in it? Could certain supplements/food do that? I'm in moderate Ketosis but cannot lose any more weight. Anyone else experience this?

The only thing I know of that can do it is alcohol.

Re: False Positive on Ketosis Strips?
Just to hop back in. Sometimes your weight fluctuates. Mine will drop weight, then snag it back some how the next day or so then let it go permanently a few days later. Also, salt inake can cause you to fluctuate too. This usually occurs about two days after increased salt intake. It happened to me ..like six pounds worth, when I went on a hot wing binge. I stopped eating them and drank lots of water for a few days then that six pounds were gone.

Looking at your post, it looks like you joined the ADBB on May 12th. is this also when you started Atkins? If so you have lost about half of your goal weight loss in two weeks. you have very little left to lose and your body does and should shed those last pounds slowly. With a total of less then 20 pounds to lose, losing 8.8 in two weeks is fantastic.

Re: False Positive on Ketosis Strips?
Congratulations on being almost halfway to goal! As someone once said here at ADBB...being in ketosis is like pregnancy - you're either pregnant or you're not. You're either in ketosis or you're not
It's good to know that alcohol could give false readings. I had no idea, but then again I haven't drank anything.

I don't drink and the sticks are clearly showing strong ketosis. I just thought my body would still shed the weight since I'm still burning fat even though I don't have much more to go. I definitely have to watch my salt intake, too. I haven't been able to exercise because I broke my foot 9 weeks ago. I'm sure once I can exercise again then it will come off quicker.

I'm just curious - are you counting your daily caloric intake?Originally posted by atkinsrock View PostI don't drink and the sticks are clearly showing strong ketosis. Re: False Positive on Ketosis Strips?
Oh if only it were this easy....I was in ketosis for well over a year and never lost a pound.I just thought my body would still shed the weight since I'm still burning fat even though I don't have much more to go.
Just because you are in ketosis does not necessarily mean you are losing weight. There are all sorts of things that can stall weight loss, and as mentioned here, the closer you are to your goal weight, the slower it will come off..it took me forever, and alot of tweaking to lose my last few pounds. I have found that exercise seems to be the one thing for me that works...
that said, it's going to be different for everyone, are you following Ongoing Weight Loss phase and adding new food groups? if so perhaps you should look at a food group (such as dairy/nuts) as an issue, if you are still in induction it's a really good idea to move to OWL.
Ketosis is just a tool, and is'tn the be all end all of weight loss... If you ate nothing but sticks of butter all day, your body would definately go into ketosis, but would you lose weight? not likely! There are a ton of factors to consider...
If you are stalled, look at other factors, and perhaps up your exercise, be patient, and don't depend too much on 'the sticks'.Jen, 39, F
