Re: Can you really eat as much as you want?

Dr. Atkins never said, even once, that you could eat all you "want." He said you need never go hungry. He said to eat until satisfied and not stuffed. You can eat all you NEED to satisfy hunger. He, of all people, understood that we who eat for many reasons besides hunger could probably eat 10,000 calories a day of low carb foods under the right circumstances.

Somewhere in his book, he says that the diet is not an all you can eat buffet. He also said that you don't have to count calories, not that calories don't count. Big difference.

What Sunny said!!! Eat all that you need to feel your hunger subside. It's not a license to eat all that you may want from a psychological standpoint... or, what you "WANT". Even with that said, from the pork rinds standpoint, they are loaded with salt, which will make you retain water... so, if you're a pounds counter, then this will retard your loss.

The real deal here is to learn how to eat to your needs, not wants. Get the right foods, eat until satisfied, then stop. Don't just keep munching on them all day as a crutch. It may be possible to still lose a little bit, but it'll be much much better if you don't use snacking as a way to pass the time of day.

Calling it GOAL at this point. I'm happy with where I am now and hope to stay there, or maybe even take it down a little more.

In accordance with Atkins, I do not mind calories, fat, and I don't restrict portions unnecessarily; however, I carefully adhere to the old "eat only when hungry, stop when full" maxim. So long as I employ this and stay as low on the glycemic index as possible, my range for maintenance runs between 90-110 grams per day, ensuring that my weight remains stable. People differ, but this is what works for me.

Pork rinds are technically permitted; but excessive sodium affects many, and your mileage may vary. As for eating all you want: so long as you mean until that feeling of fullness, the answer is yes! Just make sure to read the book and adhere to the fundamentals of the program.

I wouldn't suggest eating two bags of pork rinds a day. Atkins is about whole foods and eating those foods until your are satisfied. Once ketosis takes over you're finally in control of your cravings. Why eat pork rinds when you can have a steak?
