  • AMAZON.COM & Low Carb

OK - maybe I'm late to the party on this one - but I went to Amazon.com - limited my search to "gourmet foods" and typed in "low carb" - and the world opened up to me.

Another thread asked the question of "how can we eat something other than eggs". My wife is doing one of the doctor supervised plans where they sell you the food. One thing she has in low carb "oatmeal" (mostly soy and flax) that looks not too bad. (3g net).

So, I went to Amazon and I found all the low car stuff that was so prevalent a few years ago. I'm suspcious of much that was out there - but some looked very good. There are a series of "low carb" cereals that don't seem to rely on intensive sugar alcohols, but instead use soy & flax for "bulk". There were oatmeals and also (one of my old favorites) the old Atkins muffin mix - now marketed by Dixie Carb Counters. (These last ones are for rare occasions when your will power is strong. ONe is great - 5 are a problem).

It all looked great - but I ordered just a sampling of a few - mostly the breakfast stuff.

Has anyone else done this? Is this "flax & soy" combo stuff OK? Are there hidden problems?

    FYI!

I am not sure where on your Atkins journey you are, which rung of OWL have you reached?

If you happen to be on induction still then most of the 'lowcarb' foods will probably contain ingredients that are not allowed on induction, so they will need to be kept till you reach the relevant rung of OWL.

BTW take no notice of the label info as to which level of Atkins they are suitable for, check the list of ingredients - many companies ignore this and just think if it is low in carbs it is OK for Induction!!

As to using soy - many people think it is not a good addition to your way of eating - but this would be your choice - a google will bring up lots of references to help you decide if you want to include it at the appropriate time, but personally I dont like the taste of things made mainly with soy.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

Thanks! Currently, I have placed myself back into induction. I"m "planning ahead". My net carb today is a whopping 4 thus far.

I agree about Soy. I've read a bunch of papers and tend to think it is, on balance, good for women - so-so for men in moderation.

      Thanks for the info!!
