  • Is it really a miracle?

OK, so I just garnered a half cent for this site by clicking on an ad.

The ad was for the miracle noodle which claims to be zero carbs and zero calories (all fiber). Has anyone else visited the site, seen the news report, or tried this product? I'd love to hear some reviews from a trusted source before giving them a shot.

As someone in his first week of Induction, I think I can hold out on my noodle urges for a while yet, but if this stuff is the real deal, it may make staying on plan even easier that the first go round! (I've tried the spaghetti squash concept and don't consider it a keeper...)

I have seen them. The noodles were on the news. I know you don't cook them you just rinse them with water for a few seconds and they are good to go. I have not tried them, thought about it, but they are so expensive that I just don't know if it is worth it. Netrition has some similar or maybe the same product I don't know.
Good Luck and if you try them let us know

I have tried the Shirataki noodles that you are talking about, they are pretty decent but it is advised to wash them in warm water for appx. 3 mins. because they contain a fishy odor to them, and to take away the rubbery texture you could toss them in a frying pan for appx. 1 min. Along with some tomato sauce they are pretty decent tasting to me. Not the same texture or taste as a regular noodle but it helps when you are wanting spaghetti etc.
      Hope this helps

Re: Is it really a miracle?

I have never been able to get rid of the rubbery texture. Instead, I buy the ones that are made with the same yam, plus tofu. It's a "House" product that the grocery store carries in the produce section with the refreigerate salad dressings and guacamole (at least in my store ) They claim it is made without GMO soy.

Oh....the ones with tofu are net 1 gram per half package....and quite filling.

I've used them. They're pretty tasteless but they fill you up because of the fiber. Then I started grinding them in the magic bullet or a blender, then add some sugar free pudding and water (or almond milk when you get to that rung), and a little bit of cream cheese. Lots of fiber and you can't really taste the noodles.

I knew about the fishy smell (yes, you really do need to rinse them well... preferably with a clothes peg on your nose!), but I never knew that tossing them in a frying pan for a minute or two would help the rubbery consistency! How interesting. thanks for sharing.

Re: Is it really a miracle?

I am in Toronto, so i order them from a store here called www.thelowcarbgrocery.com, But yes they are pretty tasteless if eaten by them self, but seem to pick up on the flavor you mix them with pretty well.
Yes! tossing them in a pan for a few definetly seemed to be the trick with me, I used them quite frequently on a medically supervised diet i was on here in Canada.

                  Would these be Induction Friendly?

Re: Is it really a miracle?

Yes, I've had shirataki noodles as well. Mine didn't have that foul fishy odor everyone's talking about. I get mine at a grocery store out here called Smith's (I believe they are also called Kroger elsewhere). I found them near the organic veggies section with the egg wrappers and beside the pre-cut fruit's and veggies.
I really enjoyed them. I haven't had them since starting induction because I don't know much about their legality. But, I think I read that tofu counts as cheese so you would have to subtract the noodles from your cheese count. Anyhow, they don't taste bad or good, in my opinion, they're pretty tasteless but give you the essence of actually having noodles, and mentally filling that void. I had them with once with chicken alfredo sauce and another time in a carbonara style and both were quite pleasing.

                      Yes
If they are made from glucoman aka konjak (which is the same family as jicama which is on the 2-3 cup list of 'salad veg') then they count as some of your veg.
If you get the glucoman+tofu variety (which I dont think is available over here in UK) then you need to count the tofu element of them as being part of your 3-4 ounces of cheese (Dr Atkins knew tofu as 'soy cheese')

People have posted that the ones made with tofu are more akin to traditional pasta in mouthfeel then the ones made only with konjak.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Ah, "the noodles". I dry mine in the frying pan and add a spoon of peanut butter (I use crunchy), some hot sauce, and a bit of green onion to make a kind of Tai thing. Of course peanut butter isn't for Induction, but when you're on the nut rung it's awesome! I order mine online from The Low Carb Grocery.
