  • Suggestions on how to handle slip up?

Hi there - I've just moved up to my Rung 1 and was doing well. Although I haven't had a scale movement in about 3 weeks, I've lost many inches...I was doing really, really well until last night. I broke down and had a glass of wine and a beer at a party. I know I shouldn't have...but, I guess it was just habit to have a drink at a party...I passed on the ice cream cake though

I was hoping for suggestions. Do you think I should go back down and do an induction menu for a few days to try to make up for this? Or, would your recommendations be to continue where I am and just not let it happen again? I do my ketosis stick after lunch, so I do not know whether or not this knocked me out of ketosis...

I still have about 30 pounds to loose, so it was a silly mistake to make. I would appreciate any suggestions you may have.

    Thank you!

    Hi there,

Well, as slip ups goes it is not a huge one, but I would say it is still important to think about what made you do it in order to avoid it again. The less you cheat early on the easy it will be to stick with this WOL long term (believe me I learned the hard way). So, next time make sure you either tell people you won't be drinking, or make sure you have a nice legal drink you can enjoy so you don't feel deprived etc. Also, as wine is fine later up the rungs, it would have been best to stick with that, whereas beer has potential to knock you out of ketosis.

Well don't for not turning it into a free for all - that happens all to easily.

I'd say just keep on going, no need to re-do induction, but be extra vigilent with the water and food the next fews days to ensure you are back on track

I have to agree with Alexa, you need to figure out why but in the mean time, just continue on like it did not happen knowing it will upset the apple cart for a few days, but then you should be back on track.
I am proud of you that you did not turn it in to a carb for all and just had the drinks, you could have done much worse for sure !!
You will be fine, just do not beat yourself up, it is not one mistake that is a problem, it is letting it become days or weeks of bad decisions.

Thank you for the quick reply. I will just continue on.

It's funny, one thing that keeps coming up is that habits are just so hard to break...and, just when you think you've got it beat...BAM. One thing for me that was very hard to overcome were the little things...I'd make my daughter a peanut butter sandwich and lick the knife. Wasn't hungry...wasn't craving peanut butter...it was just a habit. Yeah...that's what got me into this in the first place

Again, thank you so much for your quick responses. It means alot to be able to come here and look for advice from so many who have great success with this wol

One thing, if you find you are knocked out of ketosis, you will have no choice but to go back to induction for a couple of days (not two weeks) til you start turning purple again. You should be OK, but check and make sure.

The ketostix won't give you the right info after drinking alcohol. You'll get a false positive for up to a couple of days until it completely leaves your system.

Just carry on and count it as a lesson learned. It does no good to second guess something you are powerless to go back and change. No doubt you will unintentionally make other slips along the way, but you just put it behind you and move forward.

I dont know about you, but I would much prefer to lose inches whatever the pesky scale says
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Yes... just carry on. As slips go, it could've been worse. Try to make a plan against a repeat. To be prepared is always a good thing. Sunny is right... alcohol makes the stix give a dud reading, so don't go by them for a few days.

Take heart... the alcohol rung isn't too far ahead. Nice when you get there, though you have to still be a little careful not to overindulge.

Thanks for your support. Yes, I'm so happy about my inches lost...what I call my 'baby pouch' has decreased by two inches over the past 11 days. I'm *very* happy about that

The biggest side effect with this slip up has been that my cravings have returned with a vengance. It's so frustrating to be feeling those again, but have been trying to ward them off as best I can.

Thank you for your support...I really appreciate it!
