  • Isn't it Ironic, Don'cha Think?

Everyone here is always talking about not relying so heavily on the "metal monster" (scale), yet we all put our SW/CW/GW in our sigs and make mini goals revolving around the bathroom beast!

Perhaps we need to start a revolution by changing the "W" from weight to waist and add SH/CH/GH (hips) and SN/CN/GN (neck).

OK, maybe that's too confusing, but at the very least I vote that mini goals become "fit into my old pants" or "climb the steps without being winded."

I can witness to the fact that Vallerie had her Ultimate goals in her sig BEFORE she read this post!

I totally agree. In fact I had my husband hide my scale from me cause it was bumming me out. On that note though, I like it when people put there SW/CW/GW in their sigs because to me it's a huge motivator. I love being able to watch everyone's progess no matter how fast or how slow. It's just another bit of proof that this way of life works and that I should stick with it. That's just me.

Literally the scale is the first thing I think of when I wake up in the morning. Peeing and weighing myself are my top priorities. Silly, I know. But it motivates me like crazy.

Just as long as you don't do both concurrently. I don't think the scale would be appreciative, and it might report incorrectly just for revenge!

exactly what splandrea said...every morning. i also measure myself and buy smaller fitting clothes because i know that scale is not always moving..... as long as one of those 3 work i'm happy cuz i know there is fat somewhere that is gone

I use the scale twice a day in the summer. I weigh myself before I go for a bike ride and then immediately after so I can gauge how much water I need to replace. In the winter I don't get on the scale once a month--by design. I do have a full-length mirror in the bedroom that lets me know my progress (or lack of...)

I agree with what Irish said. I don't allow the scale to rule my life or day, but knowing that it's going in the right direction is always encouraging. To see those numbers in other postings are hugely encouraging as well. I keep track of my measurements, but those are for my eyes only

Re: Isn't it Ironic, Don'cha Think?

I think there's a difference between obsession with the scales and using them as a tracking guide. I just completed my first 14 days. I weighed on day 1 and gave the scales to my partner to hide. They came out recently on Day 14 and although I knew I had lost as the clothes are definately getting looser, the sight of 14.3 pounds less on the scales was great excitement for us both. Scales back into their hiding place for a month.

In the past I became obsessed with the number, what it showed me made or broke my spirit. I ignored the other signs like how clothes fitted and was ruled by numbers. I knew I needed to change that and with my partners help I think I have suceeded. Now I also get the wow factor..I look forward to the next weigh in and that wow factor, it's also kind of satisfying to see it come off in large chunks rather than a pound here and there

I don't think I could just go by measuring. I don't like measuring myself and did you mention mirrors OMG I try hard to avoid ever looking at myself in the mirror and the very idea of looking at myself NAKED well, excuse me while I go and lie down with a cold compress on my head.
