  • Really really Slow Losers?

daily i see soo many people in my weight range that are losing soooo much weight, I know I know every one is differant, But i have ATLEAST 80 pounds to lose and have noticed i am a super slow loser on Atkins. I know its not a race, but the typical person cannot stay on any sort of "diet" for extremly long periods of time without straying...how many slow losers do we have on here that can reassure me that this will work??

Please note this is the ending of day 16 for me, Just started OWL

Hang it there. Follow the book and it will come off. Last time I had weeks where I didn't lose anything at all. Those are the times that make us stronger. Glad to see you are climbing the rungs!! That is where we really learn about our bodies and have a greater chance of success!

I am losing about a 3/4 pound a week. I have been back on Atkins since March and am down about 15 pounds. I think what you said about being on this long term and detouring is right. The key is to get right back on that horse and not let it turn into something bigger. My losses are sporadic. Three weeks nothing then a 2-3 pound drop. It IS hard to be patient when you are a slow loser but as you said, it isn't a race. I am learning to stay off the scale for 2 weeks at a time and just keep pluggin away at this WOE.

      GOAL TWO 213 (personal goal)
      GOAL THREE 199 ONE-DERLAND
      FINAL GOAL 165

It's not about the results. Its about the process.

        Re: Really really Slow Losers?

Seeing as how you are at day 16 (just post induction) -- consider this: last time I tried Atkin's, I lost like 16 pounds in the first two weeks. Since I had a lot to lose (70+ pounds), I decided to stay on extended Induction. In following weeks, on a similar menu, I only lost 1-2 pounds followed by a long plateau. Eventually I got discouraged because I could not repeat the initial big numbers despite following the same plan. I eventually quit because I had unrealistic (in hind sight) expectations.

So the question is, does losing a lot in the early stages set some of us up to fail, and might it not be better to be slow and steady throughout the race? I suggest you give it a few more weeks to see how things go. Perhaps you can try 3-day stretches where you test your body's response to limiting certain induction-friendly foods like artificial sweeteners or cheese or sodium. You may hit on the secret food that is legal but nonetheless slows *you* down.

You also have to ask yourself how you feel. I'm on day 10 of induction and I can still remember the nightly binges, the tired afternoons, and the uncontrollable urges to grab a milkshake or some cookies on the way home from work. Regardless of what the scale shows or even how my clothes fit, I would have to say that I genuinely *feel* better than I did two weeks ago. If I were told that neither WOE would result in a loss of weight, I think I'd still choose the option that felt the best. (Note to self: re-read this on day 16 when I become frustrated!)

Thirdly, you are a single-digit number away from ONEderland! If I were in your shoes (yes, they'd probably be tight), I would have to stick it out just to see the glorious number ONE on the scale!

And if those reasons aren't enough to convince you, then there is also the fact that I like seeing your avatar with the hypnotic eyes. It'd be a shame not to see new posts with that cute picture anymore!

Great point, Eric, you just made up my mind for me to move onto rung one, there is really no point to stay so limited if the loss is going to slow anyway, I am going to expand my horizons!!! Hang in there arriannasmom!!!

              Re: Really really Slow Losers?

              Awesome advice, Eric!

We used to have a challenge on here called The Slow Losers Club, and I was a member. I plateau for months on end and sometimes gain for no reason at all, but at the end of the day, I don't weigh anywhere near the 300 pounds I used to weigh, and I am so much healthier and more active, that it is still worth it to me to stay on the straight and narrow. Allowing myself to get frustrated causes stress and stress makes me store fat in my belly. A negative attitude is a sure path to failure, so I only endulge myself in very short pity parties and then go find something to take my mind off my weight and eating.

              Sunny!

Don't give up!! Have you tried the candida test?? Last time I did this WOL, I stalled and it was candida. I was eating muchrooms every day!! Not too good for some of us. I also like taking probiotics (not every day). Something to think about.

I dunno, you can never have too much shrooms.
