  • Taking a break!!!

So, today would be my 11th or 12th day of induction, but as of yesterday, I took a break from the whole thing. I've been dealing with a couple of things that are wreaking havoc on my body. This could be a little bit TMI, but I'm sure everybody has heard worse. I have very, very infrequent periods. Perhaps, 1 every 6 months. In fact, the last time I had one was back in November. This has been normal for me since I was 12. Anyway, when I have one, they last about three weeks and are a real b****!!! The pain can be excrutiating. Six days into my induction, I started. Along with that, I've been dealing with three days of rotten, painful constipation. I'm not sure how that happened as I take a supplement and eat plenty fiber rich foods.
Anyway, I'm giving my body a rest. I don't plan on going crazy. No ice cream, ordering pizza, or drinking cokes. I don't even have cravings for those anymore, but if I want a handful of almonds, I'll have it. I wonder if my body just went into shock. No idea.
Hopefully, this won't last too long. I really enjoyed the induction. Once I got past the "flu" part, I actually felt pretty good. So, I'm looking forward to starting it again.

    Re: Taking a break!!!

Littlehaze, of course it is up to you and you know your body better than anyone else but I would ask you to reconsider! For me all those other problems- the irregular cycle, irregular bowel movements (and other things like headaches and stomach pain) got better the more I got into this WOE. I know you feel terrible now but for me taking a break from good, healthy eating like you do on this WOE makes me feel worse. I don't know if 'taking a break from the whole thing' means you are quitting entirely or what but I hope you stick with it and I really really hope you feel better!! Good luck to you!

No, I'm not quitting the whole thing. I'm not rushing out to get a cheeseburger or anything. I don't have any desire for bread, pastas, fruits, or even sweets. Last night, we took the kids out for ice cream and I didn't have any problem resisting the temptation. I'm not really sure what I'm doing.
I think I might just end up reducing the amount I eat. I might just live a 'nibbler' lifestyle for a few days. I wasn't eating a heap before, but I just always ended up with a headache and feeling bleh!! I'll keep up with my water intake and maybe that'll help flush things outs.

I reckon it's a pity to take a break, particularly on day 12. If you finish induction, you'll have that useful number: i.e. your weight loss for the two weeks, which will give you a good idea of your probable CCLM (critical carb level for maintaining) later on in OWL. It'll also give a good idea of how metabolically resistent to weight loss you are... or are not.

Have you tried ground flax (with lots of water) for the constipation?

Sorry to hear about your painful TOM. It can happen that ones cycle changes when one loses weight because this affects hormone levels. After a while though, things settle down again.

Hope you feel better very soon.

          Re: Taking a break!!!

Horomones are stored in body fat and when you start losing the fat, your horomones go haywire for a while. The extra fat on your body could be part of the reason that you haven't gotten your periods more regular over the years. It's up to you, but the sooner you go through induction and make this a lifestyle, the sooner everything will settle down and your body will accept the new way of life as permenant and mellow out. When you abort the process part the way through, it just takes longer and is more disruptive to bodily functions when you start up again.

I wish you well and hope you feel much better real soon!

            Re: Taking a break!!!

Wow Sunny, I did not know that about the hormones, that is very interesting !!
I wonder if that is why my cycle went right back to normal this month ? If so, that was fast. I had a much easier time of it too.
I agree that you should just get through it , the time will pass and you will feel terrible whether you eat well or not, might as well be working on your health.
LOTS of water help the constipation. I am drinking much more water than normal and I am more regular than I have ever been and I am eating a good salad at lunch with cooked veggies at dinner and do take some flax seed meal with my salad. I used to have terrible problems with the constipation so you just have to work through it and find what works for you !!
I wish you would reconsider the break, depsite your best intentions, you could find it to a disaster !!

              Re: Taking a break!!!

I'm not really sure what I'm doing.
I woke up at 6 this morning and normally have breakfast around 7. It's now 1:30 and I haven't eaten anything. I've just been drinking lots of water and surprisingly, I feel somewhat better. My headache is gone. I've been alternating walking on the treadmill and resting with a heating pad on my abdomen trying to get things moving and every once in a while, I feel something, but not quite. My TOM has even lightened up some.
The constipation and continuing to eat was just making me feel worse and like I needed to throw up all the time. I think once I get rid of it, I'll be fine.
I'm not worried about having to restart induction. I liked the foods and was probably going to extend it anyway.
As for my cycle and weight. I was 145 up until three years ago when my son was born. He was 4.5 months early, spent 6 months in the NICU and that's when the pounds starting packing on. My cycle has been irregular since my very first one.
Anyway, with any luck, I'll be back to it tomorrow.

                Re: Taking a break!!!

Don't let your 'break' turn into going back to your old bad habits. I don't mean to be rude, but that is what happened to me. 2 years later, I am back and have gained almost all the weight I lost back. My TOM is very off now, but when I was on this WOL it was like clockwork. Sometimes the best things for us are not the easy things. Get stubborn!! This WOL works, you will be more healthy than you ever have been if you just stick with it. I had been feeling awful, but its not even been a full week back and I have been feeling great!! I have had a bit of trouble with constipation, but I refuse to give up. You can do it! You are worth it!!
Try to get 80-100 ounces a day!

Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you're right.
