I got my wedding dress for my vegas wedding....BUT

I almost wanted to cry when they told me what size they ordered. Right now I am in my all time high of size 16, but my dress they ordered was a size 20! Now, I know I am not a size 20, but I need reassurment. Did any other ladies experience this ego shattering wedding dress dilemma?

Have no fear! Wedding dresses are like that. I wore a size 20 when I got married and ended up having to order a size 24. Made me cry! It is supposed to be the happiest day of your life, but when they tell you what size you need you don't feel so happy. I have no idea why a wedding dress maker would do such a thing! So needless to say it is the dress and not you! Congratulations! I too got married in Vegas and I thought it was awesome. Hope you have a wonderful time!

Wedding dresses and bridesmaid's dresses are sized differently. I've heard that on average, you need to order 2 whole sizes larger than regular clothing size. In fact, I know this to be true. When I was in my friend's wedding, I was a size 20, and they had to order a size 24 dress for me.

Sizes, numbers, it don't mean a thing!! You are beautiful, no matter if you need a size 2, or a size 22!! Just remember, beauty is on the inside!! Nobody will see the tag on your dress, so just don't tell anybody!

My daughter got her dress at David's Bridal. There was a big sign inthe lobby saying. "Wedding dreses are sized small. Please ask for 2 sizes larger then your ormal size for fitting"

Don't worry about it. Wedding dress sizes are sized weird, it's exactly how Ginny says.

Now what you don't want to do is get a size and then when Wedding time comes you're too big for that dress....I did that...can we say embarrassing??? Oh well I now weight less than I did when I got married so ha!

You know you are not a 'real' size 20..and it is not like you are wearing a big sign on your back telling everyone. So enjoy it for the beautiful dress it is...with the much healthier you in it. Feel the love baby...feel the love!!!

Yeah, the run bigger. I have not ordered my wedding dress yet, but I've heard from many other brides that wedding dresses run big.
Don't stress about it, because quite honestly no one will know what size you're wearing unless you tell them...not even your groom! And the best part of it all is that you'll look radiant and to him you'll look even more gorgeous than usual. Don't sweat it, sweetie
So wipe off that sad face, erase the sad thoughts, and focus on planning that wedding. You've got tons to do before the big day!

I had no idea about this! I'm on the hunt for a dress and wondering if it is the same weird sizing in the UK?

In the end though, who cares? No one knows your labels and it's how it fits and makes you feel

EXACT same thing happened to me with my dress. Wore size 14 at the time, had to order an 18, 2 sizes bigger seems to be the general rule! But it will be that much more exciting when you get fitted and they have to take it in several inches!!

Yup, they are all right! I was married in '97, and was a size 8, had to order a 12. It was still beautiful though!!! For once, its not what's on the inside that counts!! (The tag, lol!)

Unfortunately, wedding dresses are like that. They make them so form fitting that bride's too often will order their "I hope I get there" size rather than what can be altered.

yeah - sounds about right - just like everyone else has said...
i haven't ordered yet - and i've only had ONE trying so far...but in october I went to David's Bridal to try some on - I was about a 14/15 in 'normal' clothes and ended up having to wear size 18's/20's in dresses...

I'm now down to a 12/13 and I'm really hoping to be down to an 8/9 by the time I buy my dress (meaning about a size 12 in wedding dress terms).

so don't be too upset - wedding gowns are in a world of their own.

I think they run small and then the dressmaker always orders up anyway because it is always easier to tailor in rather than out. Because the dresses are so fitted (unlike regular clothes) it makes sense that they need some room for possible alterations.

I am sure you will look beautiful regardless of the number on the tag.

Wow! I would find that depressing too! Wouldn't it be smarter for the wedding dress industry to actually go in the opposite direction and say the dresses are 2 sizes smaller?? After all, it matters more to the brides than the industry. They could just adjust that number!! Wouldn't that be a nice little confidence booster when you looked at your gown?! Another reason for me to avoid a wedding dress...
