    Hello,

Has anyone tried the 5-Hour Energy. It has zero sugar and zero net carbs. Is this 2 FL OZ drink o.k. on induction. It has just about as much caffeine as a cup of coffee. I did a quick search and did not see any related links. The drink is loaded with Vitamin B6, 2000% and Vitamin B12, 8333%. It also has Niacin 150%. It has 4 calories. Can any one shed any light on this before I drink some. Their website is 5-Hour Energy drinks - No sugar & zero net carbs. Thanks.

Mark, it contains Sucralose, which is limited in induction and the drink does not identify the quantity. Also these are very large doses of some of the vitamins and really your body always absorbs reall food vitamins better. My son said he tried them and thought they were foul tasting but I have never tried them myself.

If you're asking about the no sugar/no carbs, then you're right -- it's Atkin's friendly.

If you're asking about what members here think about the item in general, You'll get a "NO WAY!" because of the artificial sweetener and the caffeine, not to mention the fact that it's really just a frankenfood.

I've found that I have more energy now that I've weaned myself off sugar and flour than I had before so I don't really see a need for a chemical pick-me-up in addition to my normal diet. You also say it has the same amount of caffeine as one cup of coffee, but that doesn't sound right otherwise you may as well just have the cup of coffee and a multi-vitamin.

Additionally, what do you really need the caffeine for anyway? If it's to stay awake longer than you should substitute sleep for caffeine. Your body needs sleep to rejuvenate and burn body fat more efficiently! That extra 2-3 hours of energy isn't doing you any favors in the long run.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

Thanks for the feedback. I sent an email to 5-Hour energy asking how much sucralose is in their product, more out of curiosity than anything. Newbie question: What is frankenfood?

Foods that are advertised as healthy Atkins friendly foods that are processed, artifically flavored and sweetened, and are not REAL foods from real ingredients. A lot of the junk being marketed as Atkins Nutritional products fit this description. The consensus by many on this site is that we are better off eating real foods--real meats, real fruits and veggies (when we get to those rungs), and not rely on processed prepackaged meal substitutes.
