  • Not worth it

On 4th of July I went to a party at my best friends Mom's house. I ate a small portion of baked beans, 3 jello shots and a Bloody Mary. This was Friday night and I am still sick! I don't mean sick over cheating, I mean sick! It feels like the worst Induction Flu ever!! Back ache, headache, no energy, just plain yuck!!!
I have forgiven myself for cheating, and have been back on plan since. I have had sugar cravings all day today. I can't believe how bad I feel. I am never going to drink again. I am skipping Rung 5, which won't be hard for me since I have not been a big drinker since I was in my early 20's (33 now).
I guess my point is that it was sooo not worth it. I haven't gained any weight, so far. I really don't even care about that, I just feel so yucky. I hope by tomorrow I will feel better. I think it takes 3 days to get back into Ketosis, so I am keeping my fingers crossed. I go back to school on Tuesday and I don't want to feel this way. I have been drinking lots of water and fighting past the cravings. We went to Arby's for dinner and I had the Turkey, Bacon, Ranch wrap (threw the wrap in the trash).
Any ideas how I can get feeling better??

    Thank you !
Try to get 80-100 ounces a day!

Nothing besides hanging in there...stay on plan and drink lots of water. Stay strong.

BTW..isn't Arby's like a pressed turkey loaf? Could be hidden sugars in there or in the sauce? That could keep the craving going.

    You can do it!

I had a "night out" too and it took a few days to show up, but I gained 3 pounds, took a week to get them off again. It really isn't worth it! Just get back on that track, it will turn around for you!! Be persistent!

everyone slips up. no one is perfect. don't beat yourself. don't wait till tomorrow. start over as soon as you slip even before your next slip. aktins is not a crash diet. its a way of life. good luck , don't worry on your past mistakes. I know atkins works because I believe it works for me.

Its real turkey, at least the one here is. Not that weird loaf like the Roast Beef is. I am back on plan, I was right after the cheat. I just can't believe how bad I feel. Oh well, I will get feeling better. Like I said, so not worth it. I want everyone to think about how bad they will feel after 'cheating' not just about the weight gain. I am more worried about my health than my weight. I can't wait till tomorrow, and hopefully feel better.

            Re: Not worth it

Experience is a great teacher. I hope you remember just how bad you felt after having carbage off plan. Don't dwell on it or beat yourself up, but tuck it away in the back of your mind just how sick it made you and that those horrible cravings came back.

You are experiencing the opposite of the Atkins Induction flu. When you're all carbed up, you have lots of the right enzymes on board to digest carbs and not many of another kind needed to digest protein and fat. Slowly over the first few days of induction, your body makes more of the kind needed for low carb. When you fall face forward in the carbs, you no longer have the enzymes to digest carbs, so you suffer until you get them out of your system. It ain't pretty!

All you can do is eat right and drink lots of water. It will probably take at least 48 hours to get back in ketosis and could take as much as 5 days. You did it before and you can and will do it again! We'll be here to help you make it through!

            Sunny!

Thanks for bringing this up Murphy'sMom and thanks for explaining it SunnySmile501 ... I've had these in the past and call them a carb hangover!
Just stay on plan now and avoid that bad experience - I agree it's not worth it.

Haven't fallen off the wagon this time around---I did learn something last time ----but a carb hangover is like any other.....except longer. My prescription: take two aspirin and crawl into bed!

                    Re: Not worth it

Oh man, my memory of carb hangover was a positive thing. I didn't even cheat, I made a decision to test my carb response since I hadn't cheated one. OMG! Anytime I consider how yummy something off plan would taste... I remember. I was so sick and I passed out on the couch for like 7 hours! Never again, take some aspirin and lots of water. Eat a ton of fat like serious, 70-80% fat helps get it over with. Good luck.

I'm glad to hear you are feeling better! It's kinda like when you quit smoking (okay, this is my personal situation lol) but you quit for so long and then you think ...just one cigarette. And then you can't even finish a whole one, you gag and think, boy am I glad I quit this already. And it puts you right back on track. You should be proud of yourself that you got right back on the bus. You are doing awesome, don't let one day get to you. Everyone needs those moments and you got through the battle and survived.
