  • Question about the "special foods" category...

This is probably the stupidest question in the history of this board but I am confused about whether or not we count the carbs in the special foods category. I assume we do but I thought I saw someone say that we don't so I just want to clarify because I NEED to know *hehe* Thanks in advance

"To add variety, each day you can also eat 10 to 20 olives, half a small avocado, an ounce of sour cream or three ounces of unsweetened heavy cream, as well as two to three tablespoons of lemon juice or lime juice. But be aware that these foods occasionally slow down weight loss in some people, and may need to be avoided in the first two weeks. If you seem to be losing slowly, moderate your intake of these foods."

No question is stupid if it is asked in earnest.

Bear in mind different versions of the book may conflict on these special foods. Check the induction stickies on the board here for the 2002 DANDR guidelines.

Yes we do count all carbs. Because Dr A wants us to get most of our carbs from veggies, these other foods must be limited and not the mainstay of your carbs, but they do hit the spot sometimes. I know the olives have occasionally been a lifesaving "get me to the next meal" snack a few times.

We do count all carbs. If you add up the carbs in three cups of salad list veggies or two cups of salad and a cup of other veggies, you won't come close to 20 grams of carbs. Dr. A knew the other carbs from dairy, seafood and special foods would make up the rest.
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

Thank you both so much! I am on day 35 now and have definitely been counting those carbs but I read somewhere that we didn't have to so I just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing it wrong I rarely eat those foods but I want to do this right 35 days cheat free! Woot!
