  • When life hands you lemons-and you can't drink lemonade

So, I've been on an emotional roller coaster with my car. Some of you may have already read a couple of my posts about it. 2 years old, known engine problems, recall on the engine and yet they (Nissan-yes I said it.) want me to pay $5,000 because I missed my 33,000 mile maintenance and my car has 36,700 miles on it....oh yeah and by the way as if a timer went off, my warranty ended at 36,000 miles. Anyhooo, it's totally turned my world upside down. I mean if I had $5,000 dollars to fork out at any given time, I wouldn't be driving a Nissan to begin with....
So I've been an emotional wreck. But I've stuck it out with my eating and haven't cheated. The thing is, I know I'm an emotional eater....and I am so thinking about chocolate and cupcakes and craving them. I could even use a drink right now....argh
I'm not going to quit, I just hate feeling like I want something I shouldn't want.
And to top things off, I'm having a fat moment. I have been doing so well and feeling so proud and now I look in the mirror and feel like I haven't lost a single pound---or that I will never reach my goal, and that I will always be overweight.
I don't know why I'm sharing, I guess maybe I'm hoping someone has felt similar at some point and can share how they got through it.....
With all the lemons I've been dealt, there's way to much for it to be legal to drink, and I don't use splenda

Jane...you are doing the right thing by resisting and coming to the board. You are doing great at changing your ways and not emtionally eat! What great power you are exhibiting! You are an inspriation! I find coming to the boards and helping others helps to keep me motivated. Another thing you could do is go for a walk or other exercise. Sometimes life just sucks...just the way it goes. It is important to learn not to turn to food. just like we need to learn not to cheat because of some celebration or a night out. You are doing great!

Thanks so much Elsie! I know I felt so silly to share my problems but it kept my fingers typing and out of the cookie jar! The last thing I need is to not only be broke but to throw out my progress thus far. Thank you for your encouragement!

I'm sorry to hear of your troubles but good for you not going to the food for comfort!!

If the engine has been recalled what difference does it make if you missed the 33,000 maintenance check. It should be taken care of~~~good luck!

Cars can be a real pain - they can just eat money at the worst times! I don't even drive but we've had a load of angst with my partners cars over the past 3 years. Good luck sorting it.

Don't worry about venting here - anything, any problem, we understand how it can make old habits resurface. Well done for being strong.

How do you feel today? I know for me, if I can get through the night, the feeling rarely continues into the morning. I agree with a previous post that reading of others' successes, and assisting others with their problems often takes my mind off me which is a win-win situation.

As for the car, I'd put some pressure on them to do the warranty work for free, and in the meantime get some references on other mechanics who might be able to handle the problem for less. Now that you aren't under warranty, I find that service is much more reasonably priced by third parties, and I typically find those whose customers rave on to be more trustworthy. They might suggest a cheaper alternative with better results. Can't hurt to check!

Zero need to feel silly by sharing your problems and having a vent. That's what we are here for! We do understand. It takes time to change behaviors and we probably will never get over the urge to return to the ways we used to handle stress and bad times in our lives, but we can seek out new ways to deal with emotional or stress eating to sooth the beast within.

I have found that if I allow a certain amount of time to have a pity party, then dedicate some time to finding ways to define the real problem and ways to deal with it that will really help, which eating carbage will never do. I stop and ask myself what will eating "fill in the blank with carbage of choice" do towards to fixing whatever disaster that is now happening and the answer is always a resounding, "Nothing!"

Even coming here and typing out the problem helps focus your mind on the problem and not on foods that you would like to stuff so you can stuff your bad feelings. Vent the feelings and let them go. You are doing great!

Re: When life hands you lemons-and you can't drink lemonade

Thank You so much everyone. For an update: I went to bed dreaming of chocolate chip cookies but I woke up this morning thankful that I didn't crumble. It's been such an emotional roller coaster. However, I feel 100 times...no 1 million times better this morning knowing that I stayed strong than I probably would have if I stuffed my face. I get it now, what they say about addiction, an alcoholic is still an alcoholic even if they have been sober for years. Well, I have to remember that I am an emotional eater for life and have to maintain knowing that and steer clear of predicaments that can put me in that situation.
Glenda: this was our thought exactly which is terrible on Nissan's part. They admit there is a problem and then point the finger at the consumer. Shame on Nissan. There were 85,000 affected cars with this problem. Supposedly, those that hadn't sold after August of 2006 were returned to the manufacturer to have the recalled parts fixed. I purchased my car before this and was never told to have the engine replaced.
Sunny & Alexa: Thank you for making me feel better about coming here to vent. It really did help keep my thoughts on something else.
Creek: I love that post myself, I know exactly what it's talking about!!! Thank You!
Erik: Feeling much better this morning. We're not giving up!
Lisa: Isn't it amazing how emotional money can make you? Thanks for all the support!

So begins another day of waiting to see what happens next with it. I will keep you guys posted. Thank you again a million times over.

I am so HAAAAAAAAAPPPPPPPYYY that I didn't throw in the towel! I overcame those sensations and by the end of today, a phone call stating that my car will in fact be covered under the warranty.......... I'm so glad I made it through all that. In the end it works out. Now, I'm gonna get that car back and trade it in faster than who knows what. I'm so doing the happy dance!
Thanks everyone so much for helping to keep me focused!

You know, I once heard that humans tend to stress about things that, in hindsight, don't deserve the stress we give them.

Too bad I forget the quote at the times I need to remember it most! I'd try to remember, but it's just too stressful.
