    Re: How do you exercise?

Definitely exercise. In two weeks, after some startup aches here and there...take it slow at first... you will feel a lot better. Why wait?

      Re: How do you exercise?

I just saw this thread again and read it as "how do you do, exercise?"

and i pictured exercise saying back "well I do fine, thank you, and yourself?"

anyway, just made me chuckle a little.

          Re: How do you exercise?

Here's my thought on exercise...treat it as brushing your teeth and doing your hair. It's something you need to do each day as part of your daily routine. Remember, you're doing good for your body!
I have an email buddy...she emails me each day and says "Don't forget to get your 30 minutes of cardio in today & eat well." I do the cardio and eat well and email her back a couple of times a week - letting her know if I messed up or got it right. She holds me accountable! I'm very thankful to have someone in my life that really has an interest in my well being. I've lost 30 lbs with the help of her encouragement. I've learned to love myself along the way too. I gained some recently and decided that I need to finish this journey I started last year. So here I am again. I go to my local gym and use the elliptical machine for 30 minutes. It burns a lot of calories ...so it's worth the pain for me.

Try to start out small..with some walking - break it up if you have to...but start with 30 minutes of cardio a day. Good luck and be excited for the new you!

            Re: How do you exercise?

In the beginning, it's about making changes that you can continue indefinitely.

I think the first step is just being more active. When I started Atkins, my exercise was mainly long walks, walks with bursts of jogging (like, half a block worth!), and the elliptical machine. Then I gained strength and confidence, lost weight and inhibitions, and joined a water aerobics class.

I thought, heck, I can do this, I want a new challenge! So I joined a gym, and started using weight machines and taking classes. Then I wanted something more difficult--I started weight training with the big boys, using free weights. I continued to add different things to my workout, making sure I NEVER got bored. Now I'm teaching classes at the very same gym I joined when I was 240 pounds.

            1. Whatever you choose to do, make sure it's something you LOVE!

            2. Challenge yourself, but don't over-do it. Gradually increase weights or time or distance.

            3. Don't compare yourself to anybody else. You are unique, and fitness takes many forms.

            4. Start small, and work from there.

            5. Have a fitness goal in mind. Something like "I want to walk for 4 miles", "I want to be able to run for a minute straight" or "I want to be able to do 10 pushups".

exactly! I used to say there's a lot of women who put 1/2 hour-1 hour in EVERYDAY to their hair/makeup/clothing selection.

Like, I wont even go to the store on a saturday morning without at least brushing my hair and throwing on SOME makeup. and I will certainly not go to work without 1/2 hour of makeup and blow drying my hair. So, if we set aside 30min-1 hour a day on making everything look good from our neck-up, why don't we set the same amount of time aside per day to make everything look good from the neck-down?!

                Re: How do you exercise?

Hmm I think I'm going to finally try to put in some cardio into my daily workout routine. I'll try running around the neighborhood later tonight when it gets cooler, hopefully I don't wuss out at the last minute.

                    Re: How do you exercise?

i totally agree that you should go ahead and start exercising now. nothing too hard, but atleast to something. i've also done this "diet" before with no exercise at all, and i was definately the skinny fat person. this time around, within the first couple days, i started adding just a few exercises in. i'd go for a walk, and maybe do 15 or 20 ab crunches. then i increased my walk after a few days, started doing more crunches and added squats to my routine. tried to do a push up and when i realized i could actually do one, added a few more each day. then i joined some exercise challenges on the board and that also helped tremendously. i added a stability ball to my exercising too. i aquired a bike last weekend, started riding a bike this week for the first time in years. tonight DH and i went for a 5 mile bike ride. like someone already said, you have to find things that you won't get bored doing, and change it up often. DH and i have even went to batting cages while we were out running around town, just so i could get some form of exercise in.

the best part about exercising, is the way my body has morphed itsself. i'm only down 19 lbs, but am already fitting into clothes that i couldn't wear until i had lost much more without doing any exercise. i honestly can't believe how much my body has changed this time by exercising.

this is just my story and my opinion as far as exercising goes. whatever you decide, when you do start to exercise, just take it slowly and try to change it up before you get too bored with what you are doing.

good luck and happy losing to you.
                    monie

                      Re: How do you exercise?

I'm of the "do what you can while you get through induction" school of thought- and then it's non-negotiable. Even if all you do is walk, get some done, but your primary focus should be eating during induction. That's not an excuse to just avoid the exercise or not make an real effort to do it during that time though!

I've never come across a Beach Body program I didn't love. They're all incredible! I hope you get the same kind of mileage out of the workouts that I always have!
