I am thirty today. I started this WOE a year ago. I have lost 70lbs so far however I am very frustrated because I seem to be stalling. I have worked very hard and I think my stall is the result of too much sweetener/ and or caffeine. My ex took the bowflex in the divorce, so all I have now is a treadmill, which I must admit I don't like as much. That being said I plan on restarting induction on Mon,I plan on using stevia as a alternative. Anyways my question is I cheat 4 times a year( I am really good and don't cheat any other time) B-day, Christmas, Thansgiving, Easter, I feel like this is a reward for being strict all year. Does anyone else do this? I feel like its not emotional since I plan it, and get right back on the next day. Opinions anyone? Thanks in advance

1. It's a special occasion and happens only occasionally. We don't want every little thing to become a "special occasion".
2. You do indeed get right back on the wagon the very next MEAL or snack.
3. You can accept that if you are in a weight loss phase of this that those celebrations will derail your losses for a while. I recently "celebrated" the 4th of july. (Friday and sunday) It has taken me until Today (friday) to start losing again. Which btw.. my celebration put me up 3 lbs..and I have another 1lb to go before I am back where I started a WEEK ago. So if you can accept those things I would call it a way of life which is what we all want to make our losses permanent. Others may disagree but that is how I look at it. Sure you can do better by making better decisions for that day and planning ahead with low carb options and then you wouldn't have to wrangle yourself like I'm doing this week. AND btw.. it wasn't worth it!
I much like the feel of the inches and the pounds being lower. I think for me, this past weekend was a learning experience. HTH

Re: Ok I am 30 today
I dream about cheating. Does that count?
I say don't put the plan on hold for the weekend. Enjoy your birthday cake today (since I'm guessing the carb binge has already begun) and start immediately tomorrow. If you take three days at your birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter -- that's 12 days in all. In 12 days, I lost 14 pounds.
I'd suggest sticking to plan at those times and rewarding yourself with something other than carb-laden foods. By rewarding yourself with carbs, you are telling yourself that carbs are good and you are not worthy of them 353 days of the year. Kick the carbs off the throne and begin recognizing that they aren't a reward -- they are a crutch. Who wants to be "sick" on the most important days of the year??

Re: Ok I am 30 today
Hi there,
Congrats on being 70lbs down - that is great! Happy Birthday too!
Without wanting to open the old what is/isn't a cheat can of worms I'd say a cheat is still a cheat. I would not judge you for that because I am a confessed emotional cheater. I'd just say if you have the willpower to stay away from carbs on these special occasions, do so, because you never know when the cravings they can cause will next be insurmountable and lead to regain and problems.
As Green Eggs and Ham said, why not reqard yourself with nice legal treats, even going up the rungs a little and experimenting?
Also caffiene and sweetner are very likely stall causers - cut them out and see what happens. Hope it helps, though sometimes stalls just happen and you have to sit them out, which is frustrating.

Happy Birthday!
Congrats on getting is great shape!
What about eating a tiny piece of cake to avoid feeling sick and guilty...have a steak.
On the stall, try a new exercise (running or taebo or swimming?). Your body has adjusted to your routine and might be trying to keep the weight on.

Re: Ok I am 30 today
Happy Birthday and congratulations on your 70lb wt loss! Great job! Maybe you should go out and buy yourself a new wt set as a birthday present! No comments about cheating... it's been a huge topic of conversation and I'm guilty... If not for cheating I'd be at goal instead of restarting induction today... so anyways, have a Happy Birthday, try to keep the cheat to a minimum and get right back on track... There are lots of reasons for stalls. Maybe it's time to go back and re read the book. That's what I'm doing.

Re: Ok I am 30 today
Happy 30th! Congrats on the weight loss too...that's wonderful
As for cheating, I ended up really sick last week when my sisters were here. We went out and I ate things I wasn't supposed to. I ended the night with a headache that wouldn't stop and ate Motrin for the rest of the weekend. It wasn't worth it at all. If I would've eaten properly before heading out it wouldn't have happened. Temptation is huge on a very empty stomach.
