    Re: Minimal weight loss?

Thanks for all the encouraging feedback! It sounds like I should ditch the slim jims. The diet coke, however, I just can't give up (I've tried before) and the diet with splenda just doesn't cut it for me. I liked the idea of alternating the diet coke with water that someone suggested...I'll have to try that...at least I'll drink less of it.

I was down another pound this am so I'm glad I didn't give up. I promised myself I'd try induction for 2 weeks (3 more days to go) and decide then if I want to continue on so I'll hang in through Friday no matter what.

Your probably right on the slim jims.. I agree on the diet soda.. I hate the taste of splenda and truthfully I don't think it's any safer than any other sweetener out there. Except saccharin which to me again, tastes nasty. I haven't given up my aspartame and I haven't stalled because of that. I have stalled but it wasn't because of the soda it was because of the heavy cream I was using. In case you haven't seen the thread on breyers carb control ice cream.. two words.. Don't do it!

        Re: Minimal weight loss?

The best thing to do for advice is post a menu. It really helps alot. If there is no doubt you are on plan pull your book out and re-read it. Pay attention to the supplements section. My DH lost very little during his first 2 weeks. We pulled out the book and added a few supplements that aid in fat metabolism. Weight loss is steady for him (he could lose quicker- mainly because he rushed to the alcohol rung of OWL and has to have a couple of low carb beers on the weekends) but he is down about 20 pounds since the beginning of April.

I have read DANDR at least 30 times and learn something new each time.

flpooh19701: thanks for the tip on the carb control ice cream...I'll keep that in mind. Right now, I'm not doing any "carb controlled" foods...I'm eating only real foods like meat, salad, cheese (limiting amount), etc. I plan to add some "sugar free" and "low carb" items once I'm finished with induction but I had bad luck in the past with Atkins bars taking me out of a good ketosis, so I don't mess with any of that stuff during induction.

I do miss dessert though...anyone know of a good low carb dessert that won't blow ketosis?

That sounds good...is pumpkin ok for induction phase? It doesn't show on my allowed foods list.

                  Re: Minimal weight loss?

It is on the acceptable list in the 2002 DANDR which is what we follow here. I practically live off the stuff! I love it. Just make sure that you get pure pumpkin and not pumpkin pie mix which is full of sugar. I use Libby's and I mix it with a little bit of flaxseed meal, cinnamon, stevia, and butter and stick it in the microwave. Yum!

                    Re: Minimal weight loss?

I'm going to try that since it's on the allowed foods!

I think I blew it today. I managed to resist the pizza at our work meeting...I went and got a salad. I even managed to resist the fresh garlic rolls they included with my salad...I gave those away. I did, however, eat about 10-15 chocolate candies (JB's...kind of like M&M's) during the course of the day (not all in one sitting).

Day 12 and I blow it! This was the first time I had a drop of food not on the program. I'm ready to just eat a whole darn cupcake. I'm going home to see if I'm still in ketosis...if not, I may just go get the darn cupcake! Sigh...I can't believe I blew it like that!

Don't eat the cupcake!! Get right back on plan. I had a cheat on 4th of July, and I got right back on plan. The keto stix aren't always right. Stay on plan! You can do it!!
Trust me, that cupcake isn't worth it!!!!
Try to get 80-100 ounces a day!

Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you're right.

Don't do it! Ok, so you made a mistake, the important thing is to get right back on track. Do not allow yourself to have a case of the "might as wells" - i.e. "I ate some candy so I might as well go and eat a cupcake," etc. Take a step back and think about why you cheated, reassess your priorities, and move on. You are not a failure, you just made a bad choice. We're only human. Don't give up! We're here for you!

                          I didn't eat the cupcake!

Fortunately, I was still in ketosis despite the candies so I'm going to keep plugging on...two days to go to two week mark.

                          Thanks for the encouragement!

Another 'dessert-style' veg on the allowed list along with pumpkin is rhubarb! Excellent if stewed with a little allowed sweetener and eaten with thick cream.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

I feel like I am reading my own story. I understand totally. I am in just started week 5. I still follow the induction phase. I cannont get a clear figure on how much I have lost. I think I am getting on the scale to often out of curiosity. As soon as remeber to purchase a tape measure when I am at a store, I will take my measurements. I am not giving up and shouldn't either. Good Luck!
