  • Minimal weight loss?

This emoticon is exactly how I feel. I'm in my second week now of induction (started on 7/5/0 and I've only lost 5 pounds! I know most people lose 10-12 the first week and I'm on day 10! Argh! My husband started a day after me and he's already lost 10 pounds (but, I know, men lose quicker). I've been in ketosis the whole time...I test 3-4 times a day to make sure.

I'm not going to throw in the towel yet...I promised myself I'd stick to induction for at least 2 weeks so I will. But I'm very discouraged. Anyone else seeing these kinds of slow results? The only other posts I've seen about "stalled" losses are those who've already lost a bunch of weight.

    WTG! hang in there!
I lost my first week and gained my second week and I "thought" I did better my second week!
Then the WHOOSH happened on Wendsday of the third week--lost 6 pounds--been steady 2, 3 or 4 a week now..
but the real proof is in the tape! 8 inches off my waist--4 off my stomach--but only lost 1 pound for the entire 5th week in..then WHOOSH again..

so some weeks it's inches, some it's pounds, some it's both...

And it's written in black and white by DR A!! of the 50 thousand woman--the average after 2 weeks was 5-6 for woman--8-10 for men--

    You are right on coarse!!!!

Maybe you could post some of the food you have been eating. Maybe something there is slowing you down. Do you eat your 3 cups veggies a day? What is your Fat/Protein/Carb percentage? Do you keep a food diary, or use Fitday? How tall are you, how much weight do you have to lose?? LOL I need more info!
Try to get 80-100 ounces a day!

Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you're right.

5 pounds is great! WE can expect to lose 5-10% of the weight we need to lose during the first 2 weeks. You don't list your weight loss goal, but 5 pounds is great no matter what that goal is!

I agree with Bill----don't compare yourself to your husband! Men, typically, lose weight "faster" than women. So if you compare yourself to him, you'll only discourage yourself.

        You're doing great.

          Thanks for the encouragement!

For those of you who asked my info: I'm 5'6 and am 159 pounds (started at 164). My goal is 134. I'm 37 years old.

As for my intake: I've been eating induction approved foods (no weird Atkins bars, protein powders, etc...just real food). I snack on pork rinds or slim jims. I don't keep a food journal (i can't be that obsessive about what i eat) but I have been taking in less than 20 carbs per day and remaining in induction.

My only "no-no" is caffeine free diet coke...some foods just don't taste good with water or tea. I know they recommend no drinks with aspartame but it doesn't seem to affect my cravings or take me out of ketosis.

            Re: Minimal weight loss?

Five pounds is great considering... I also say hang in there. I jumped on the scale last night (not something I do regularily) but I am at 48lbs lost since Early March. I began Atkins on the 24th of April. I don't know how much I lost on induction. I am on extened induction. I have no cravings, I feel great... and I am continuting to lose. I never lost big numbers fast... but AM losing steady and slow...
DON"T throw in the towel. We all carry our weight differently...
AS long as you are in ketosis... it means you are burning fat for fuel and not carbs... so you are doing the right thing...
I hear you about the diet coke thing... I tried stopping... I just committed that when I drink a diet coke/fresca I have to drink a bottle of water to match it. I have found that since I am drinking the diet coke I am drinking less water.... it has not stalled me that I know of... maybe it has slowed me down, but I am happy with my progress and to be honest I don't think I can totally give it up... I aim to attempt it every day though.
            GOOD LUCK!!!
AND CONGRATS on the 5 lbs...

Did you read the ingredient list on those slim jims? I am just asking because as far as remember they were not quite Atkins clean.
But I agree with the rest. We are all so different when it comes to how we are going to lose. Keep your perspective and goal in mind - it is what happens on the long haul that counts.

                Re: Minimal weight loss?

People that lose 10 to 12 pounds the first week have more than 100 pound to lose total. I don't know too many 300 or 400 pounders that lose that much in one week. I weighed nearly 300 pounds when I started and was overjoyed that I lost 7 pounds the first week and 5 pounds the second week. I followed the book to a tee, also.

Atkins is a wonderful way to lose weight quickly, but it's not magic. Your diet seems fine (except for slim jims), it's your expectations that need adjusting.

                  Re: Minimal weight loss?

The slim jims are listed as less then 1 carb each but the calories are really high if you are eating a lot of them and there is corn syrup, dextrose, etc.:

                  Ingredients
Beef, Mechanically Separated Chicken, Water, Corn Syrup, Salt, less than 2% less of: Spices, Dextrose, Paprika and Paprika Extractives Flavoring, Hydrolyzed Soy, Corn, and Wheat Proteins, Lactic Acid Starter Culture, Sodium Nitrite. Contains: Soy, Wheat.

Also the pork rinds have a fair amount of salt, as do the slim jims. so you could be retaining water.
But overall you should be pleased with your weight loss!

go on-line and search out slim jim's
if you think "beef" is a nice steak and "chicken" is boneless skinless breasts..your in for a shock..they are made from the By-Products (left-overs) of these animals..and when you see what the leftover's are...

DR A wanted us to avoid sodium nitrite--known staller present in all packaged ham, cold cut's, and hot dogs...

Well, keep going at it!! The weight will come off, we promise (if you stay clean). I must admit, I love Slim Jims! I buy the little ones in the can, and keep them in my purse for emergency snacks. I ate one between clients on Saturday, I didn't have time to eat lunch until 2 pm. I try not to over do those things!
They do make Diet Coke with Splenda. I really would drop the aspertame, its bad for you.
Try to get 80-100 ounces a day!

Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you're right.

                        Re: Minimal weight loss?

It may be you haven't done anything wrong. It may be that you are going to be a slow loser like me. I lost four pounds in the first week and a half, then just one more by the end of the two weeks. I have lost just under a pound a week since then. I am not perfect, but have been darn good. No conscious cheats but a few "oops" when out (sauces that tasted like there was more to it than they said, or gravy that had to be scraped off). I exercise hard 5-6 days a week and drink my water all day long. Bottom line is that I am a slow loser, but I AM LOSING. I have faced the fact that I have a high resistance to losing. You may or may not need to do the same. But to even talk about giving up is silly. It is working. Just because it isn't working as fast as you would like is not a reason to give up.

Give it a chance and try not to focus on your husband. Mine always loses 5 times faster than I do (and he always gains it back because he goes back to his old ways). Hang in there and be glad the scale is going down at whatever speed.

I started on 7/5 as well. I've lost 4 lbs so far and I started at 190 lbs. I'm okay with that. I didn't gain it all in one day I don't expect that we'll lose it all that quick either. I think your 5 lb weight loss in just over a week is great!

My DH is, in theory, doing this WOE with me as well. He isn't as strict as I am but loses better. I try not to compare myself to him.

Hi. I am a slow loser too. I lost 6 pounds the first 2 weeks and then stopped for the next 3 weeks. After that I began to lose again. I only lose about 2 pounds a month. It can also depend on how much you want to lose. I needed to lose 50-60 pounds. Don't give up. Any weight lost is a good thing and a success.
