Re: Do any of you have to deal w/work discouraging you?

Add me to the "I gave up sugar and white flour" crowd. Oh, and then I tell them that I'm eating 3 cups of veggies a day. Who can argue with less sugar and flour and more veggies?

Re: Do any of you have to deal w/work discouraging you?

i was faced with a similar situation today, there was an eatin' meetin' with our CEO today, and they ordered pizza and had chips and pretzels. over the weekend i had forgotten that this was today and packed my lunch last night. i took my little cooler to the meeting, got my salad and my yogurt out and no one said anything to me about it, and we just went on with our little gathering. i just sat there thinking about how much garbage everyone else was shoving down there throats and how delicious and healthy my lunch was.

a couple weeks ago, we had a little company picnic after work, and instead of breaking over and eating those hamburgers and hotdogs on those carb filled buns, i took my oopsie rolls with me to work that day. when it was time to eat, i took them outside with me and ate my burger and dog on an oopsie roll, and had a great time at the picnic. someone did notice that i had them instead of regular buns, and made a comment that they looked like little pancakes and asked me if i made them myself. i told them yes, and that my doctor wanted me to stay away from sugar and flour, so i make these instead of eating bread.

fortunately for me, people at work haven't given me any hassles, but i have only told my closest of friends that i'm even doing atkins. if others ask, i just tell them that i have cut out flour and sugar from my diet. which is the truth without going into great detail.

there's no reason you should be persecuted(sp) for your way of eating, but if you feel you would be, then just find a better way to explain your new found way of eating. then just try to ignore those people who would rather be misinformed as to learn the actual facts before spewing out all those harsh accusations. there's nothing worse that ignorant, misinformed people.

just thought i would add my thoughts and experience to the thread,

Monie, that sounds great. Downplaying it seems to be a good strategy. Good for you!

this is the easiest way to deal with it, for sure.

my workplace is FULL of people on weight watchers. I've never seen so many dieters in one place.

THAT is soooo true... it is funny we could package the whole atkins in different lingo without changing a thing and people would accept it... its almost like diet"ism" isn't it. I often say the same thing... and people are like "wow"... that is what Robin, Dr. Phils wife says... WOW...

just know that sticking to your plan works and you will be fine...

BTW.. Love this thread... lots of good supportive suggestions here.

Re: Do any of you have to deal w/work discouraging you?

I tell my coworkers how bad their food is for them, proceed to eat my protein and veggies. Sometimes I have pumpkin with pumpkin pie spice and some heavy cream for afternoon break. I always get comments about it looking like baby poop. I really don't care what they think. They all are taking BP meds, Statins and or are diabetic and always getting sick. I just shake my head at them while they eat their cake, cookies, pie and crackers.

Recently my boss had his 50th birthday. Of course they all wanted to get him a birthday cake to celebrate. I got the birthday cake ( go-fer is part of my job) but I didn't eat any.

You just have to do what is best for you. You can do this. Yes a lot of us put up with coworkers trying to derail us from our goals.
