  • Where does the fat go?

I am curious if any of you have researched this.

I have always been told that the reason weight is regained so easily is that when you lose weight, your fat cells shrink but they are not destroyed. I am wondering though if the low carb method, with ketosis destroys the actual fat cells or like other diets merelyemptys the contents and shrinks them.

I learned in school that you never lose the fat cells you gained, you can only ever shink them.

yes thats what I've been told too. But Atkins talks about us "burning" fat for fuel, so I wondered if the Ketosis thing is different. (Hoping cause I'd like those little buggers gone forever!)

Yea, it goes nowhere Very sad but true. Thats why people gain everything back so fast: fat cells just happily balooning back and even more.

only liposuction can remove the fat cells from your body, but we are not talking about this procedure

Its amazing and true, as your body stores more fat, the number of fat cells remains the same. Each fat cell simply gets larger or small based on your caloric intake and expenditure. FYI - it is Fibrous Adipose Tissue which is where we get the term fat.

Just adding my .002 cents! :^)

Re: Where does the fat go?

Speaking of lipo--it was thought that we are born with a certain number of fat cells and if they were cut out with plastic surgery or liposuctioned out, they never come back. I read recently that they have discovered that we can grow more fat cells to replace the ones cut or sucked out. Bummer!
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.
