Re: Atkins Survey- copy and post your answers!!

      Great idea!

      1. When did you start Atkins?
      June 2008 this time.
I did it before ... summer 2006-summer 2007 but did not follow OWL formally.

      2. How many pounds overall do you want to lose?
      41

      3. How many pounds have you lost since starting?
      12

      3. What is your favorite Atkins friendly food/snack/recipe?
      Charbroiled irradiated medium rare burger.

      4. What Atkins friendly food/snack/recipe are you burned out on and sick of?
Nothing yet I am an omnivore and only a month in this time.

      5. Any physical side effects-aside from weight loss- you've experienced (good or bad)?
Good: Much more energy. Stronger. Skinnier. Looking healthier.
      Bad: ?

      6. What's the most common thing (uneducated) people tell you about your Atkins WOE?
      Eating too much meat.

      7. Have you tried other programs to lose weight before Atkins, if yes which ones?
I never tried other programs except possibly the Ornish one years ago (20th century...) but I don't think I stayed with it long.

      8. Aside from Dr. Atkins NDR book, do you have any other Low-Carb favorite books?
      No.

      9. What advice would you give to someone who is considering starting Atkins?
Your brain is only 2% of your weight, but that is the part that has to change before the other 98% does. So, read the book seriously, and join ADBB to learn more! Then change the other 98%.

      10. What NON atkins friendly food do you miss most?
I miss fruit like blueberries. I am looking forward to introducing it.

      11. What's your best tool for staying on track with this WOE when temptation arises?
Plan your day with fitday.com and you will eat well, so you will not be hungry or tempted. Also, exercise. If after that you are tempted, a turkey slice with mustard is pretty safe.

      12. Did or do you have any stalls, if yes what rungs/foods are or were the culprits?
Induction was not as productive as I expected at first, but now I realize I lost enough in relation to my goal weight. But, I learned I was not being careful enough about counting food types and grams.

      13. If you could sum up your Atkins experience so far in a few words what would they be?
      Healthy and happy.

        1. When did you start Atkins?
        07-07-04

        2. How many pounds overall do you want to lose?
        153 pounds

        3. How many pounds have you lost since starting?
        145 pounds (almost there)

        3. What is your favorite Atkins friendly food/snack/recipe?
OMG, there's so many. I love to grill, So asian ginger chicken sticks and roasted veggies.

        4. What Atkins friendly food/snack/recipe are you burned out on and sick of?
        None

        5. Any physical side effects-aside from weight loss- you've experienced (good or bad)?
All good! Not only have I lost 145 pounds, I reversed my Type-2 Diabetes. I no longer require meds for high blood pressure because it stablized and I have a much healthier blood chemistry. I have really healthy skin, hair and nails. I havn't been sick for four years, not even a sniffle. My energy level has increased. I'm more active and am able to do so many things that I never could do before. My mind is sharp, no more brain fog. I was able to identify addictions and find tools to control them. I could go on and on about the benifits, Life is good!

        6. What's the most common thing (uneducated) people tell you about your Atkins WOE?
I can honestly say that I havn't encountered anyone telling me anything negative about Atkins. Dare they?

        7. Have you tried other programs to lose weight before Atkins, if yes which ones?
        Weight Watchers, Low Fat Diets.

        8. Aside from Dr. Atkins NDR book, do you have any other Low-Carb favorite books?
Well Some of them aren't titled Low Carb, but they pertain to it. Like, 8 Weeks to Optimal Health, Living the Low Carb Life, Dr. Atkins' NEW Carbohydrate Gram Counter, Super Foods for Seniors, The Herbal Drugstore, Food for health and healing, SouthBeach Diet, The Ultimate Weightloss Solution, The Flatbelly Diet, The New Glucose Revolution, and lets not forget Dana Carpenders 500 Low Carb Recipes. I have others here. Those are just my reference books here on my desk. Some day i'm hoping to add Sunny's Secrets Recipe Book, Ha Sis

        9. What advice would you give to someone who is considering starting Atkins?
*Find a Physician that suports Atkins. *Get your lab done first thing. You'll be amazed how your blood chemistry will improve. *Purchase DANDR and read it!
        * Keep a journal, keep track of your weight, measurements, food diary and your thoughts. This is extremely key to keeping you on track.*Don't weigh yourself everyday. * Plan, Plan, Plan!* Read rules of Induction on page 122 DANDR. *Always read food lables and be vigilant on knowing exactly what you're puting in your mouth. The manufacturers like to sneak in hidden sugars, especially HFCS ( high fructose corn syrup) Also be careful of meat that you buy. They like to pump that up with sugar aswell. * Try to eat food at it's freshest form. *Never Ever eat artificial sweetners. Heck with them just making you stall. Their nothing but a chemicle soup that will kill you some day! *Finally, be kind to yourself and try putting yourself first. For if you can't take care of you, who will?

        10. What NON atkins friendly food do you miss most?
I have found that there are healthier low carb versions of all my favorites. I'm a sugar addict, so IF there would be something I missed, it would be all the candy and baked goods I make during the holidays for gifts.

        11. What's your best tool for staying on track with this WOE when temptation arises?
Have a plan. "Fail to plan, Plan to Fail" Always have acceptable food on hand.

        12. Did or do you have any stalls, if yes what rungs/foods are or were the culprits?
I had a 65 day stall once. It was actually the dairy rung and after I had lost over 80 pounds. It was more of a body stall than a reaction to any food I introduced. It just happen to be in the dairy rung. It was a time where I really realized how our bodys need that time to readjust itself. Get caught up in a sense, after losing so much weight(in my case). Kind of like resetting a thermostat. Also a time when I didn't see the scale move but saw the tape measure become smaller around my body. It was also a time to get caught up emotionally. Not only does it take alot of physical energy to lose weight, I think the biggest part is mental.
There's alot going on inside your body during a stall. Just because you don't see anything happening doesn't mean that there isn't.

        13. If you could sum up your Atkins experience so far in a few words what would they be?
Atkins saved my life and continues to keep me the healthiest that I can be. I've learned more about myself and my reactions to foods than any other weightloss program. That's what make Atkins Different. It's not a diet, it's a Lifestyle, a wonderful one at that!

It isn't healthy~~to much fat is bad for you~~carbs are essential for good health

          9. What advice would you give to someone who is considering starting Atkins?
~READ THE BOOK!!! You need to understand how & why this WOE/WOL works. Follow the plan as Dr. A instructs & you'll have success. You need to educate yourself!!
~Become a member of ADBB~~~support is crucial in making this work!

I stalled during the winter during a period of depression caused by SAD. I don't think any particular food/rung caused the stall. I had periods of carb creep & days of falling off the wagon. Luckily during this period of time I didn't gain any weight.

Re: Atkins Survey- copy and post your answers!!

            1. When did you start Atkins?
            This time around -- June 18, 08

            2. How many pounds overall do you want to lose?
my initial goal is 60 pounds, but we can reassess when we get there

            3. How many pounds have you lost since starting?
            just over 20 to date!

            3. What is your favorite Atkins friendly food/snack/recipe?
(no fair -- two question 3s!)
like music tastes, it changes every couple weeks. i liked oopsie rolls when i started, then went nuts over cauliflower pizza. currently, i'm overdosing on leftover Easy Cheesy Chili Chicken.

            4. What Atkins friendly food/snack/recipe are you burned out on and sick of?
based on previous answers, i guess i'm lucky that i like eggs! basically, i get tired of anything eaten too often. i'm starting to try Linda's recipes rather than just eating a "slab of meat" with a side of veggies.

            5. Any physical side effects-aside from weight loss- you've experienced (good or bad)?
well, i can make it up the stairs without my heart pounding in my chest. i also feel more awake throughout the day. as for the bad effects, i find i have to do more cooking if i want something new -- the wifey refuses to double her workload...

            6. What's the most common thing (uneducated) people tell you about your Atkins WOE?
always chatter about the large quantity of fat and how unbalanced the diet is. i usually reply with dr. atkin's explanation of how you have to counterbalance the former high carb lifestyle by temporarily cutting carbs to a severe low. once the see-saw evens out, you can return to eating (healthy) carbs.

            7. Have you tried other programs to lose weight before Atkins, if yes which ones?
LOL -- how can you know that atkins is "right" if you don't know what's "wrong"? SlimFast, WeightWatchers, Body Typing, Scarsdale, NutriSystem, starvation, and grapefruit all fall under the latter.

            8. Aside from Dr. Atkins NDR book, do you have any other Low-Carb favorite books?
nope, but i have several bookmarked websites. one of the (less obvious) reasons i like atkins is that it's possible to follow without spending money to 'learn the secret." that allows me to support this site instead!

            9. What advice would you give to someone who is considering starting Atkins?
promise to give it two weeks with no cheats -- the weight lost on a solid induction should be the motivation you need to continue. also find a site like this one for support from people in the same boat (i give credit to WW for their support structure if not the point system). i find that a daily visit to ADBB (including at least one post per day) is as important as my daily vitamin!

            10. What NON atkins friendly food do you miss most?
ice cream is probably at top of the list (substitutes are nice, but just not the same). also have "nightmares" about eating pizza, chinese food, and a nice large bowl of cereal...

            11. What's your best tool for staying on track with this WOE when temptation arises?
ADBB or exercise. (must. get. away. from. temptation.)

            12. Did or do you have any stalls, if yes what rungs/foods are or were the culprits?
5 weeks in -- nothing i can really call a stall. the first week following induction can be rather depressing when the pounds drop considerably slower than previously. based on previous experience, i expect nuts and dairy to be issues for me which figures since i LOVE both of them.

            13. If you could sum up your Atkins experience so far in a few words what would they be?
i agree with some of the previous posts in that this diet may not be the answer for every person, but it is effective for me. i think success on this WOE requires two things:
            1) you have to make the commitment. if you go in with every intention of making exceptions for certain events or situations, you wil fail. cravings and additions will go away, but only if you make the conscious choice to follow the plan.
            2) you can't have set expectations. the new WOE will lead to weight loss and better health. however, if you expect goals to occur by a certain date, or expect to see a consistent drop on the scale each time you jump on, you will talk yourself out of following the plan.
(this is probably the thing i am struggling with the most in the couple of weeks since the end of induction!)
