  • #$*@&: Niacin supplement!

    Sigh.

I went to take my daily vitamin and assorted supplements today. I've been taking a separate Niacin capsule that my doctor had recommended once before for my cholesterol. Later, I noticed that niacin had other uses such as increased metabolism and reduced sluggishness.

Today, the bottle just happened to be sitting in the cupboard with the nutritional info facing out. Curious, I took a looksy. You'd think the first ingredient would be niacin, right? It is a niacin capsule after all. But no -- the first ingredient was sucrose. Now it's been a while since high school chemistry, but if I recall correctly, sucrose is the nerdy name for table sugar. Thus my title for this thread.

Darn! I hope you'll be able to find something compatable at a local nutrition store without the sucrose.

I suppose Miss Poppins did always say, "A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down!"

According to the linked article above, niacin occurs naturally in dairy, poultry and lean meats. Interesting. If so, then why would a low carb follower need a supplement? Guess I'll just stick to the new eating plan and pass on the sucrose supplement!

If you use fitday you should be able to check if you are lacking in any particular vitamins by looking at the reports section. I never looked for niacin but just cjecked and my intake is about right without any extra supplement.
Apparently there was enough of it in the chicken breast, tomato, celery, mushroom & pork I ate.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

i am pretty sure sucrose is used in gel capsules which is why a lot of them contain sucrose.
