  • Mayonnaise

I live in Canada and can not find mayonnaise that does not contain sugar.

I came across one today and on the bar code label of percentages...it shows sugar as "0" yet in the ingredients list it lists that it contains sugar. I have no idea how they can do that.

I purchased some reg. Helmans the other day thinking I had read the label carefully but when I used some today, I thought I would take another look and mid way through it lists sugar.

My understanding is that no sugar is to be consumed. How do people eat mayo then on Atkins?

What does one do? Any brand name mayo suggestions?

    Thank you,
    Sarina

It's really hard to find mayo with no sugar. Most people just are aware that it does have a small amount of sugar, so keep portions smaller.

I am lucky in that I live in the South and we have Duke's mayonnaise and it is sugar free. I don't think they have it in the North at all, though.
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

      Hi Sarina,
I've used Helmans aka Best foods with no problem. Some folks use Dukes. I just recently found out you can order that online if they don't sell it in your area. I think it was 5.00 a jar and free shipping. And some people make their own.

I too eat Hellmans and Kraft without issue. In Canada if the carbs are .9g's or less they are allowed to list is as 0.

You can google mayo recipes and make your own as well, it's really easy and all you need is a blender or food processor.

Terrific, that makes a lot of sense regarding the carb. count on the Hellmans jar.

Thank you for the ideas and suggestions regarding the other brands, it's much appreciated.

                Re: Mayonnaise

The mayo I buy (Lidl full fat mayo) has much less carbs than Hellmans (0.9 carbs per 100 grams) so take a look at 'own brand' stuff in case you can find similar.

I buy Kraft (full fat) and use it without any issues, but Duke's makes a sugar free mayo. While in North Carolina I saw it at a grocery store and should've bought some to bring home with me.
