  • Atkins diet on a budget?

Does anyone have any tips for penny pinchers? Recently lost my job and decided this would be a good time to lose my extra 100 lbs. or so! On the positive side, I have plenty of time to exercise!!! Thanks.

    Sorry you lost your job.
I like to buy family packs of meat and freeze them. Its usually cheaper if you buy in bulk. Plus you can usually buy big bags of frozen vegetables for pretty cheap at the grocery store. You can make lots of delicious things out of a bag of frozen cauliflower. Eggs are usually pretty inexpensive and you can make quiches and things with them. Good luck!

I buy family packs of meat too..cook it up and put into individual servings in the freezer. Hamburger is cheap and goes a long way. This is a good time of year for fresh produce. I would be buying and putting stuff in the freezer as much as I could afford. Plan your meals as best as you can so you don't have stuff going bad in the fridge. Still time to plant a window box of lettuce to harvest.

Find out when your meat market puts out its reduced items. It is usually in the mornings.

If you know who your store produce manager is, ask if you can stop by when they are pulling dated stuff. Once they have pulled it, they might let you pull out a little boxful and sell it to you cheap. It is going in the dumpster anyway, so it is worth a try to ask. I have gotten salad mixes, mushrooms, carrots, the little salads allready made up, lots of stuff that would have been trashed.
