  • Overeating... Insulin Resistant (IR).

The pitfall for many on Atkins is the misconception that they can eat, eat, eat. What is the point?? A person will never re-learn to eat in moderation if they don't begin now. Eating is for purpose, NOT for pleasure, (but some days are easier than others).

Dr. A said that obesity is due to a malfunctioning metabolism, he went on to say that people who are overweight DO NOT metabolize carbs properly because they are insulin resistant, you can't cure your faulty metabolism, but you can manage it by eating a very low-carb diet. Chronically high insulin levels may result in Insulin Resistance (IR), which affects an estimated 60 to 75 million Americans. IR means you produce and release insulin into the bloodstream, but it's not enough to move glucose into the cells and out of the blood because the cells have become resistant to the action of insulin. As a result, blood glucose levels rise along with insulin concentrations. High carb diets, particularly those packed with simple carbs, contribute to IR in some people. But being overweight and underactive are major contributors to the development of IR. In the majority of cases, IR can be reversed with weight loss, increased physical activity, or a combination of both.

So drink up your water, eat the acceptable foods for your rung and only when hungry, exercise frequently, take your multi-vitamins with potassium but without iron, and accept that you are IR.

    Happy Low-Carbing on Atkins,
