Well after four years it is time to get back on Low Carb. I am on day 7 of Induction and have some questions.

I am strictly eating low carb amounts but am wondering if I am eating too much calories and fat.

I find myself snacking on loads of chicken, cheese, salami etc.

Yesterday I had two eggs, two sausage patties, some beef jerky, a pickle, two plain hamburger patties with mustard and some lettuce, snacked on some meat and cheese, then for dinner I had some rotissirie chicken, snacked on some more salami and some sugar fee Jello.

Just wondering if the high calories and fat are going to slow down the weight loss?

I no longer have my material on how this diet works so I am going by memory.

Thanks in advance for the help,

    Re: Induction

Atkins's books say to eat all you want of the "permitted foods" till you're satisfied. I found myself eating a whole LOT of permitted foods this last week, and no weight loss till I cut back a bit and ONLY ate when I was really hungry. I think just eating all the time is going to slow weight loss. Sounds like what you ate yesterday was reasonable Salami and sausage would have probably stalled me out though in induction. The Atkins website gives the induction food list and "rules"

      Re: Induction

as long as you stick to your 4 oz of cheese.. you seem to be doing good.. you said some lettuce but i didnt really see 3 cups of salad veggies in there.. make sure you get your veggies (it will help you not get constipated also) and water water water
salami and sausage could have added sugar.. look for that.. keep coming here, read everything you can, ask questions.. you will find great support and encouragement here.. you can do it !

        Re: Induction

Thank you both for your replies.
I may be eating too much cheese, I have been paying attention to the carbs not the ounces. I need to make sure I am eating my lettuce, I probably am not eating enough.

**I am eating turkey sausage, I figured that if it has 1 carb per 2 patties I should be safe from the sugars??? Is that wrong?

**The salami has 0 carbs so I figured that was safe.

**Now I am reading that I shouldn't be drinking Diet Coke, I drank 2 a day when I was on last time with no problems but I really want to do it right. A bit confused about that one.

**I don't see Flax Seed on the Induction list, is that not allowed?????

Thanks to everyone this site is so helpful !

That turkey sausage has sugar added. I would finish it off (counting the carbs!), and then buy another brand next time, one that has no sugars on the ingredient list.

Re: Diet Coke. You're not allowed to have aspartame as that stalls people and raised blood sugar in diabetics. You are also supposed to avoid caffeine, which is why Diet Rite is generally the recommended soda. If you are consuming caffeine anyway, and I know some people do, the Diet Coke made with Splenda is fantastic. They don't make a Caffeine Free version though.

You are also allowed saccharine (sweet & low) but a max of 3 packets a day. Splenda packets have to be counted as 1 carb each because they contain a tiny amount of starch. If you use liquid splenda, it has no starch. This soda stuff is taken straight from the 2002 DANDR which is right here on my desk.

You can have flax seed if you are eating your 3 cups of veggies but are still constipated.
