  • omg, I need a bagel-- HELP!!

Okay, so my work has this nice thing they do for staff: they give us free breakfast every single Friday morning. All staff go up to the cafe and sit, eat and socialize for about a half hour. The problem is that they only offer diet disasters: bagels, donuts, muffins, pastries, etc.

Since I started the diet, I haven't joined my co-worker friends for Friday morning breakfast because I didn't want to be tempted, but I don't want to never go again. It's a nice little social time and a quick break from work. I guess I could take my own Atkins friendly breakfast , but that will seem so unappealing next to the donuts and cheese danishes everyone else has.

Does anyone know of a decent tasting lower carb bagel? Anyone else have any grand ideas? Similar situations?

    Thanks!!

Protien shake ( I make mine tastier with a tablespoon of sugar free pudding mix) and bring a breakfast of some Strawberrys, berries...or other lower carb treat with a dab of whip cream? Nature's own has a low carb bread as well, depending how senstive you are to carbs, I think it has 7 all said and done.....Wasa cracker, with peanut butter?

      My two cents!

Do you have a microwave at work? You could always bring in a dozen eggs, some sliced cheese and some sliced ham (check for sugar) along with a microwave-safe small bowl as your "donation" to the breakfast social. Bring along a couple of Oopsie rolls for yourself and microwave a beaten egg for 1 minute in a bowl roughly the same diameter as your rolls. Place the egg, cheese and a slice of ham on your rolls for a low carb "Egg McMuffin."

I'm suggesting bringing the extra eggs, cheese and ham to encourage co-workers to follow your lead by making their breakfast sandwiches with bagels or toast. If it catches on, you can try to convince your employer to foot the bill for eggs and ham on future Fridays. Best of luck at staying strong and resisting the carby foods!

I was just going to say oopsie rolls... The last batch I made I made with cream cheese and cinnamon and vanilla (organic pure vanilla generally is corn syrup free) I spread cream cheese on top of it w/ some cinnamon splenda (made just like cinnamon sugar) and it was delicious... I actually really enjoy the oopsie rolls because although you can taste the egg the texture and everything really just makes you get that bread craving nipped in the bud!!!! (lol my coworker has been saying that all day "nipped in the bud" so I had to use it!)

Thanks everyone for your replies! I'm going to try baking some Oopsie rolls for the first time tonight and maybe those will become my new Friday morning breakfast treat!

You can't go wrong with a Mock Danish...They'd fit right in with what everyone else is eating. I eat them every morning for breakfast anyhow!

What is a "mock danish"? Whatever it is, it sounds good!

Re: omg, I need a bagel-- HELP!!

I know there's an official recipe somewhere on here, but here's how I do it.

In a small/medium microwave safe dish, microwave 1oz of cream cheese for 15 seconds to soften it. Mix in a few dashes of cinnamon, a tsp of splenda, and tbsp of flax meal. When blended, mix in one egg and stir until everything is mixed really well. Microwave again on high for 2 minutes, then put in the fridge to chill.

These are really handy cause they travel well, and are quick and easy to prepare. I know that other people use different amounts of the ingredients, so just try one, and adjust to your taste.

                    Hope this helps!

I wonder what would happen with like a half of an egg, that eggy taste is just too much for me.

I think the cream cheese, cinnamon and splenda WAY overpower the eggy taste. The egg tastes egg-ier if it's not mixed really, really well. I can't stand eggs after 3 months of this WOE, so if this thing tasted eggy, I would really be turned off. Try it, you'll like it!
