  • OH NO! Huge Measuring Mistake!

    Since starting this WOL in June, I have refrained from sugar and sweeteners. I had one slip up over a week ago and then went back to being cheat/sweet free. Today, however, I was watching my friends sit pool side sipping on Iced Latte's and I was so envious. I decided I would go home and make my own version of one. Now, I've never had the allotted amount of sour cream, heavy cream, etc. I just never opted for them. And I never had the heavy cream with anything because I would take it sweet, and I was staying away from the sweeteners. It's been so long since I read the book, or memorized Induction rules that I made a HUGE mistake. Instead of 2 tablespoons of heavy cream, I used 2 ounces....(tasted delicious) but that's way way way over the amount allowed as I'm still on the Veggie's Rung!
    So now, what do I do? Is this really bad? I'm so mad at myself for thinking ounces and not tablespoons!

    Sounds delicious. Cream is yammy stuff. I would not beat myself up over that. Just a mistake. It is not going to throw you off ketosis or anything. Not even THAT many carbs. Actually DANDR on pg 129 says that you can have three ounces of cream a day. (Although another place he mentions 2-3 tbs)

      yeah, the 3 ounces is under the "special foods" category. I always assumed that was in addition to the 2-3 T allowed under the regular foods.
      However, watch for stalls. It's one of those YMMV things.

        I agree - treat it as being a 'special category' addition, count the carbs in it and carry on regardless.

        But in future if you are not 100% sure of amounts allowed, do check with your list of allowed foods to be sure not to overdo things inadvertently. When I started Atkins I always kept my 'wallet sized list' handy to look things up to avoid blunders.
