  • worried about today!!!

So, i knew this time would come.
This afternoon my husband and i have been invited to a bbq at my best firends house!!! i haven't seen her in months (due to my still awful work schedule)
No one has seen me....the people who have of course have not commented on any change- but that isn't the issue (well, partly, i didn't want anyone to see me until i hit 170)
but, she said she is making hot dogs and things....
i hate them....i'm not sure what to do....i was thinking of bagging up some salami and cheese to get through and a water bottle (because she is having regular iced tea)
tomorrow is weigh in for the end of induction and i was really hoping to get under 200- since i'm at 201 right now....
what do you suggest i do? i keep trying to get out of it, but my husband keeps pushing me to go- and i totally understand that, but what is wrong with me!!! i guess i have stayed out of the limelight here for a little bit so i wouldn't be around bad foods- well not that i'm tempted, but i don't want to face "why are you not eating" "where did the bun go"- the worst part is it's a small get-together -5 people and i love her to death, but she is a loudmouth!!!!!! and will make loud comments all evening...ugh....HELP!!!!!
    THANKS EVERYONE
my weight loss is just extremely important to me

    Re: worried about today!!!

This happens to me all the time. I come from a long line of food pushers!
Here's how I handled a similar situation recently:
I put together a nicely arranged party tray of Atkins friendly foods: salami cubes, cheese, baby tomatoes, celery, zuchinni sticks and dip (there's lots of Atkins dip recipes out there). I also stirred up a jug of sugar free lemonade (no one needs to know that you sweetened it with splenda!)
Cheerfully tell your friend that you didn't want to come to her party empty-handed. Most bbqs (at least in my neck of the woods) are potluck affairs anyway and people always bring a little something to the party.
As for the "where's your bun?" question, I don't bother getting into big low-carb explanations anymore. I just tell people I like the hot dog part, but I'm not crazy about the buns. No one's ever pushed me for more information than that, but if you're worried, be prepared to switch the conversation quickly to another topic, such as "Have you tasted that broccoli salad yet? It's to die for... who made it?" Before you know, everyone's talking about something else and not focussing on your bunless hotdog or hamburger.
Hope that helps! Go and have a good time showing off your shrinking body!

Yeah - bring your own food & drink. It's just the same as if you had food allergies and couldn't have nuts or gluten or melon (or sugar because you are diabetic). Tell your friend 'doctor's orders' if anyone asks. You could also eat before you go so you don't have an appetite for more than a few nibbles of legal foods. Go more for the mingling than the munching.
        Good luck!!

              Thank you!

So, yes- thank you first for all the tips- i did it, i brought a plate of cheese and salami- and it was a big hit- plus i brought some wine for everyone else- and it wasnt hard at all- i didn't even think about eating the cheesecake (thank goodness i've never liked cheesecake)
but, i weighed in today- and i gained 1.8 lbs!!!!
              i was 201 on wednesday and now i'm 202.8
              I don't understand this
I think it might have been the atkins bar i ate- my husband bought me two- since i haven't been able to eat breakfast because of my work schedule i ate one thurs morn, and one fri morning-
im assuming this is it and i'm upset- they said they are good for all phases and also 2 net carbs- but i don't get it, i read the back and i counted 12 net carbs per bar, so i counted each as 12.
Anyway- no way i am ever eating one of those products again----good grief....and i have read all of your posts about not doing it, but i did it anyway, never again...
so, i am drinking tons of water today- and this is all after not cheating and going the extra mile at the party...i am determined to lose this weight and no one and nothing (even the supposed legal atkins products) are going to stop me
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR ADVICE AND HELP!!!
              now at ....230/210/202.8/170
UGH!!!!!!!! all i wanted was the 100's...maybe next sunday!!
              Luv, Me

                  Re: worried about today!!!

well the first thing she said was "did you get taller?" and i said no, i lost about 30 lbs!!! but it was great to hear that i looked different, no matter what she thought :0 yes, she made fun of me all night, but it was all in good fun- her son's a vegetarian so she made fun of him too- but in reality, i think she was really interested in the diet i was on- she kept asking me questions about it- so she must have really seen a difference!!!!
btw- i want to get to your weight desperately!!!! great job!

                    Re: worried about today!!!

thin29 - im glad you had a good time.. the weight gain could have just been sodium (pepporni / salami could do it) and maybe you didnt drink as much water as you thought at the party - but if you really think the bars did it then by all means stop eating them... if you have troubles in the moring.. what i do is boil some eggs.. i put 3 each in a zip lock bag then just grab and go... i usually cant eat them until i get to work then i much on hard boiled eggs the first 30 min or so.. (or they are easily handled if you want to eat in the car.. but be careful)

                      Re: worried about today!!!

Congratulations on your weight loss and for overcoming the barbeque...well done!

We've been going to a lot of barbeques the last two months and what I've done is brought a load of food that I can eat and of course share with others. That way, I don't have to resort to trying to figure out what I can eat from what other's have brought. Needless to say, everything I've been bringing along is a hit and no one knows they're eating no/low carb foods

You might be up 1.8 pounds due to water retention, salt intake, your TOM etc... Keep up the great work and I'll bet you next week you'll be below the 200 mark.

                      Keep us updated!

Glad to hear the BBQ went well and that you learned the board here is right when it comes to Atkins frankenfood. Stay away from the bars and shakes and find something else that you can grab and go. Maybe a quiche? Only takes a minute in the microwave. Keep up the great work.

See, we all knew you could do it! Bet your friend gets in touch to find out the secret to your weight loss.
I'm in the same boat with the need for grab-and-go foods.
I always keep a stash of mini quiches that I make in mini muffin tins. Just pop in your mouth as you're driving or working at your desk.
Oopsie rolls are a lifesaver too for a quick "sandwich" of roast turkey breast or sliced avocado.
