  • Hello everyone Quick Question

Hi i am new to the atkins diet, i really no nothing about the diet besides the fact that you are not allowed to have bad carbs. I am an athlete, i play college tennis, i went out on the court today for practice and felt like i was going to DIE! on the tennis court, and my legs felt like they were about to cramp. My question is, is the atkins diet for athletes or should i try something else. thank you

Ask one of our marathon runners!

Yes, there is no reason why an athlete can't do atkins. And, after your body has turned into a fat burning machine, you may very well find, like others have, that you will have more stamina and a much more even burn of your blood sugars.

If you read the book, you'll see that the good Dr. said that exercise is very important to this Way Of Eating...

As for me, I know it works. If you're serious about Atkins, please do get the 2002 version of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR here) and give it a read. It should make sense why this works... And,with so many success stories here, how can anyone argue with him?

Calling it GOAL at this point. I'm happy with where I am now and hope to stay there, or maybe even take it down a little more.

I think Atkins is for anyone. If you look around you will see marathon runners, etc. A lot of the people here are very active athletes.
That said the first week or two can be rough on your system as it switches over. Also I have problems with cramping and I take a calcium supplement called calcet. It is the only thing that helps me in that regard, but I do have the cramping too. A good multi vitamin and mineral supplement might really be helpfull to you.
If I were you I would hang in there a little longer and see if it gets better.

          Re: Hello everyone Quick Question

I was working with a trainer for about 6 weeks before I started Atkins. I did my workout 5 times a week and I was really use to it. The first week I was on Atkins I could barely get through my workout. I felt weak and shaky. I am SO glad I stuck it out because it really did get better. I feel stronger than ever. Your body will adjust soon and it will perform even better for you.

          Good luck,
